Like <a href="https://mas.to/tags/metoo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>metoo</span></a>, I believe this will be swept away. I think there is some frustration with everyone's non-favorite elites being able to act with impunity, but they still want to excuse their faves</p><p>And I think those of us who actually give a shit about the victims is a vanishingly small percentage</p>

It's more galling to thinking about wealthy people doing it, but that isn't the only way children and young people are abused. </p><p>This was the entire point of talking about "rape culture" this was the whole point of <a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/meToo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>meToo</span></a> </p><p>If you want a conspiracy try to understand how these ideas have been demonized and forgotten.</p><p>But, if you really want it to end that is the road.</p>

People didn't intuit the existence of the hashtag, type it into the search tool, and then start following it.</p><p>Further, the search tool *also* ranked the messages, because spammers *routinely* add trending tags to spams and scams. Without ranking, a search for any popular tag would be ten million spams.</p>

I'm fine with that. My issue is with the algorithms - if publishers promote something to drive engagement, then they are responsible for ensuring that the content isn't defamatory. <br>We could go even further and say they shouldnt promote false content that isn't ID'd as parody - flat earth, fake health info, etc. But that's hard to do. So, why not just ban the use of algorithms to promote content?</p>
