A snail on top of some mushrooms. The mushrooms and the snail's body are similarly beige. But the snail's shell stands out because it's bright yellow with dark burgundy stripes.

Happy #MushroomMonday! Here are a few unidentified mushrooms from a couple weeks ago—my gut says they're all Amanita species, but I only took samples of one and I haven't given it a proper inspection under the microscope just yet.

Fingers and crustacean claws coming up from the forest floor. I thought I might have discovered an orange variety (on the right) but on closer inspection it’s a maple seed.

Candlesnuff mushroom [Xylaria hypoxylon]

Here are some of the mushrooms I saw on this hike for #MushroomMonday

I was really excited to see the Reishi!

A shot taken looking down at a beautiful Reishi mushroom growing out of a nursery log. The mushroom has a thick, lumpy stem and two fruiting bodies coming out of opposite sides of it. The mushroom's color lightens from deep orange on the stem to lighter orange and then to white at the ends of the fruiting bodies. Species unknown.

A shot looking up at a couple of clusters of mushrooms, called Asian Beauty, growing out of a nursery log. The mushrooms are a light off-white color and grows downwards with flattened teeth. They almost resemble a mushroom waterfall or stalactites growing out of a cave ceiling! This mushroom is found in Asia and has only been found in the United States within the past ~15 years.

Looking ground level at a hump in a thick section of pineneedles. The mound is about 4 inches high and has a gaping black zone on the side where you can see in. Though there is a mushroom in there which when it grew it caused the needles on it to go up, you cannot see into the darkness.

Look what I found on my walk to the protests on Saturday!

This is an entry in the “Game of Shrooms Global Art Scavenger Hunt,” a cool initiative from artists working in different mediums who hide their art and those who find, can keep.

At the website you can see map pins of the locations where art is hidden. This year’s theme is fungi.

The artist is Sarah Suponski who works with stained glass and who I contacted at her Etsy shop to let her know I found it.
