Why do so many people use single providers for these services, i.e. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#gmail</a>, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/x" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#x</a>, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/discord" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#discord</a> or <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/medium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#medium</a>?Please, take care for independence. Don’t only use those big players and think of multiple provider environments like the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fediverse</a> .

It still works, it's wicked fast, and it takes up ridiculously little RAM (<7MB!). I'm learning how to maintain Debian packages, and I used XRN to practice on, so now I've got a Debian XRN package mostly ready to go. I'm wondering if there's enough interest to try to get it into Debian. So: if there were a Debian XRN package, would you use it? Please boost if you have friends here who might care about something like this. Thanks!

Coming from even earlier times (Fido in my case) I enjoyed plain ascii <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/EMail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#EMail</a> for p2p, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/NetNews" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NetNews</a> for async groups, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/IRC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#IRC</a> for sync groups and the early <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Web" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Web</a>. And today everything is more complicated and instead of being happy to communicate people fight in <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/SocialMedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#SocialMedia</a> or <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DiscussionGroups" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#DiscussionGroups</a>.It's not the technology. We’ve lost our <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Spirit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Spirit</a>, we’ve lost our <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Culture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Culture</a>. Let’s keep it at least here.
