This is small, but feels right.
I’ve been trying to use “enslaved” instead of “slave.” For example “enslaved people in America” or “enslaved labor.” I noticed many Black folks making this subtle change so I followed their cue.
I believe it matters because “slave” names someone by definition, whereby “enslaved” names their situation.
Would you rather be noted as a slave or a person who was enslaved?

There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 60,000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 20,000 children. We know these numbers are not accurate — thousands more are being found under the rubble and so many more will perish due to lack of medicine and medical treatment, food, water, and shelter. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed against the Palestinian people. And yet the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel broke the fragile ceasefire agreement reached in January 2025 and has made clear its intention of ethnically cleansing Palestinians. Three months of a total blockade of everything necessary for life has brought Palestinians in Gaza to the brink of famine, already causing the deliberate death by starvation of many. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and B'Tselem have declared that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people of Gaza. More and more people are questioning their governments' support for Israel's genocide because of the pressure being exerted by our movements, and Israel is becoming increasingly isolated as a result.
We continue to come together as a political community to take action to end the genocide for as long as it takes. We will continue Monday through Thursday.
