@koteisaev If EU membership had not been coupled with NATO membership, perhaps the situation in Ukraine would not have been the same. See the example of Sweden and Finland: These two countries were long members of the EU without belonging to NATO. Finland joined the EU in 1995 and did not join NATO until 2023, Sweden followed in 2024, almost 30 years after their accession to the EU.
