#Trump aims to slash funding for the National #Science Foundation by >50%, to $3.9B from $8.8B in 2025. The area most affected is #research & #education, including spending for #climate, #CleanEnergy & “woke” social, behavioral & economic #sciences, as well as programs the budget vaguely classifies as “low priority areas of science.”
All programs supported by the #NSF concerning #DEI in the sciences are to be eliminated. But funding for #AI & #quantum information science is to remain the same.
Just learnt today about Feynman-Stueckelberg interpretation today, which says that anti-matter is simply matter, but moving backwards in time, opposite to the flow of real matters' flow. Amused for the whole day there what if there is a whole world right next to us, and we can't perceive it.

My $0.02: it sure looks like NIST is backstopping an attempt by the NSA to get everyone to standardize on cryptography #standards that the #NSA knows how to break.

Yes, they did it before. If you read up on the Dual_EC calamity and its fallout, and how this time it was supposed to be different - open, transparent, secure - then prepare to be disappointed. NIST is playing #Calvinball with their rules for this contest, yanking the rug out from under contenders that appear to be more #secure and better understood, while pushing alternatives that are objectively worse (#weaker encryption, less studied, poorer #performance).
Frankly, I think organizations outside of the #USA would be foolish to trust anything that comes out of #NIST's current work. Well, those inside the USA too, but some of those may be forced by law to use whatever NIST certifies.
[1] Some people think djb is "prickly", not lovable. Oddly, it seems that the only people who say this are those who are wildly incorrect about code/algorithms and are being gently but publicly corrected about by djb at the time

Quantum physics has been one of my intense autistic passions or interests since my adolescence. For many years, I was deeply curious about the intersection of quantum physics and other subjects such as philosophy, neuroscience, Zen practice, and martial arts. It remains a fascinating world for my curious mind and informs much of my thinking. Because of this subject, I ended up studying physics and electronic engineering in my youth.

Imagine, if you will, that you're an unstable #quantum system – one that would, if left to its own devices, rapidly decay from one state (let's call it “awake”) into another (“asleep”). Except whenever you start to drift into the “asleep” state, something gets in your way. Maybe it’s a message pinging on your phone. Maybe it’s a curious child peppering you with questions. Whatever it is, it jolts you out of your awake–asleep superposition and projects you back into wakefulness.
