#Harvard had argued that the revocation violated its #FreeSpeech & #DueProcess rights under the US #Constitution. In addition, Harvard contended that the revocation failed to comply with #DHS #regulations. The regulations required providing at least 30 days to challenge the agency's allegations & giving Harvard an opportunity to pursue an administrative appeal.

The US Court of Appeals for DC had ruled for the challengers.

“An agency may weigh environmental consequences as the agency reasonably sees fit,” Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh wrote for 5 justices. The court’s 3 liberal members agreed with the decision’s bottom line but on narrower grounds.

The question before #SCOTUS was whether an agency had complied with a federal #law by issuing a 3,600-page report on the impact of the proposed #railway in #Utah.

The case was closely watched because it became a proxy battle over how far federal agencies may go in assessing the #EnvironmentalImpact of highways, pipelines & other projects before deciding whether to approve them.

Among other guests…were #SuKyungNa, who is COO at #Hyperithm, a digital asset management company based in Tokyo & Seoul, & Yan Liberman, a co-founder of #DelphiDigital, a Miami Beach firm that offers market intelligence for #crypto investors.

It was a spectacle that could only have happened in the era of Donald J. Trump [no other president has ever so corrupt]. Several of the dinner guests, in interviews w/NYT, said that they attended the event with the explicit intent of influencing #Trump & US #financial #regulations.

“The past administration made your lives miserable,” Trump told the dinner guests, referring to [always obsessing over] the #Biden admin’s enforcement actions against #crypto companies.

Lawyers argue in the lawsuit that the new agency priorities noted in the form letter are not articulated in #policy or #law, & that federal #regulations do not allow for cancellations when the agency’s priorities change “post-award.” They said the rule only allows for cancellations of #grants that no longer meet the agency’s goals as stated when the grants were awarded.

The rule was crafted to ensure that data brokers obtain Americans’ #consent before selling or sharing sensitive #personal #information, including #financial #data such as #income; #regulations that US #credit agencies are currently required to abide by under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, one of the nation’s oldest #privacy laws.
