Tourism in Japan - Geisha, Photography and 「心のフィルムにやきつけた」
My thoughts on 'Overtourism' in Japan particularly affecting local communities like the Art-Culture: Geisha community.
Photography with consent and respect in public places ensures that photography is an enjoyable activity for everyone involved.
Consent may not be legally necessary, but it's a standard that people should seek as respect to other fellow people.
Where consent is rejected, then it is rejected.
Where consent couldn't be sought, then be respectful in your approach - are they showing their disapproval by their body language, emotion or other non-verbal gestures?
My photo here - taken from behind a 30-strong crowd of other tourists - back in December 2008.
I couldn't explicitly seek consent, but you can see the difference between when the subject of your photo is open to being photographed vs all the recent videos and photographs taken without consent as seen on Instagram/News
Keep photography open and enjoyable for everyone.
If you miss out the photo opportunity, then don't make a fuss: put down your camera and burn that picture into your mind's film instead.
There are hundreds and thousands of moments that we miss on photographing. If you make a fuss, then you not only miss the opportunity, but you also ruin your mind's film as well.
