The west side of Shinjuku Station has two underground passages (about 500m long, one on either side of the street) between the station and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings.

They each have a series of moving walkways on one side covering most of the distance.

A broad, high roofed underground passage full of commuters walking. The floor is grey concrete tile, the sides and ceiling a series of shiny white rectangular pillars. It's well lit but not bright. You can see about 100m down this straight section before it begins to curve to the right. At intervals along the ceiling there are illuminated signs with yellow lettering indicating exits to different buildings or the street to one side or the other.
A narrow moving walkway along the side of the larger pedestrian passage. Various people, mostly wearing dark suits or jackets are standing or walking along the moving walkway into the distance before the passage turns. The left side is lined with a series of rectangular pillars separating the walkway from the main passage, the roof and right wall are shiny white tile reflecting the pillars and passengers. At intervals along the ceiling are illuminated signs indicating exits to different buildings, or pointing ahead to Shinjuku Station West Entrance.
