Christian Wilms<p>After spending a few weeks lurking, it’s time for an <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/introduction" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>introduction</span></a>.</p><p>I’m Christian, based in southwestern <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/Germany" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Germany</span></a> after fleeing the Brexit fallout in the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/UK" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UK</span></a>. A <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/biologist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>biologist</span></a> by training, I spent a long time with <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/neurobiology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neurobiology</span></a> research. Today I work for two small companies in the <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/fluorescence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fluorescence</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/microscopy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>microscopy</span></a> and <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/motioncontrol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>motioncontrol</span></a> fields.</p><p>I have been <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/sailing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sailing</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/dinghies" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dinghies</span></a> for over three decades, with a partcular passion for highperformance <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/skiffs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>skiffs</span></a> (still a beginner at sailing faster than the wind blows). Over a <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/boatbuilding" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>boatbuilding</span></a> project (a <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/Farr37" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Farr37</span></a> is still work in progress) I discovered <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/handtool" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>handtool</span></a> <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/woodworking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>woodworking</span></a> and now dabble in furniture making.</p><p>The meltdown of the Birdsite reminded me how much I miss <a href="https://qoto.org/tags/usenet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>usenet</span></a> - maybe Mastodon will be a good replacement?</p>
