The #SlideRule, like the #LogBook, is probably as useless as the #PocketCalculator, today. But I am obsessed with those relics, even in the face of modern 64-bit and 128-bit CPUs.
I hope, in a couple of decades when I'm six-feet-under, people still appreciate those CPUs as we do the slide rule.
Showing my age I know but here is my first ever ‘scientific calculator’. With no batteries to run out, the slide rule was the perfect solution to carrying out engineering and scientific calculations. #SlideRule #calculator

So it’s a Circular #SlideRule ! Outstanding!

After looking for a long time, I finally found this #Sliderule, which belonged to my late father. Some of you will know that these #devices were used, before the advent of digital #Calculators, to perform #arithmetic operations such as #multiplication and #division to about three significant figures, by #scientists and #engineers.

Found in a thrift store. Hard to believe that people used to use this actual thing to do actual calculations to fly actual planes. #SlideRule #AnalogComputer #aviation

Our fellow Mastodonian
@AmenZwa has written a lovely historical article on all things sliderule:
I was trying to typeset the 4 chapters K&E 4083 #sliderule supplement manual in plain #TeX for better readability but ended up adding 1/3 more materials, and half of the addendum is now my original writing.

@PointyEndUp Maybe you also need to scale it up?
(I'll have to see if I have photos of my Pickett slide rules, too. Too lazy to open the boxes. )

Close enough, I think.
The angles don't quite match. But the book design isn't true, anyway, as the scales are not like the original slide rules. Also my StudioLog wasn't closed completely.
