🆕 blog! “Howto: Connect IKEA's Trådfri Zigbee Bulbs to a Philips Hue Hub”

Written because it pissed me off. I hope this helps you in your hour of need.

You have to do one bulb at a time. If you plug in multiple bulbs and try to pair them, it won't work. I don't know why.
You will need a portable lamp - or some other way to bring the bulb as…

Wemo plugs were among the first #SmartHome items I got almost a decade ago. They stayed reliable, but I eventually realized the limitations/problems of cloud-based devices like this & started bringing everything under local control. I finally got rid of my last Wemo smart switch back in November, precisely so I don't find my gizmos bricked like these will soon be.

Mein #SmartHome zu de-amerikaniskeren (und de-sinologieren) war nicht trivial.

Was weg muss: Tuya, SmartThings, Google Assitant, Alexa, Hue etc.

Hey guys, does anyone know a selfhostable alternative to #Siri? I used to use Siri to make my thoughts being written down or for creating reminders or adding something to my calendar. Maybe sometimes to ask for the weather but that is not important. Since I don’t use it anymore I'm more messed about this and it really helped me to get rid of random thoughts but I want that apple can spy on me less. Is #HomeAssistant Voice a thing?

Another #SmartHome idea I haven't seen: a sensor that works off a laser beam. Similar to the automatic toilet flush activators or the safety mechanism on automatic garage doors. Break the laser beam and trigger the sensor. Could be used when you're just trying to identify when a threshold has been crossed, not necessarily when any movement happens. The tech is definitely there; why hasn't anyone made this?

The Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner was a good product; I suspect it was only killed because SC Johnson didn't make ENOUGH money on refills. But what if someone made a #SmartHome version that didn't need to be run manually? Add a humidity sensor to tell when a shower was happening & a motion sensor to tell when someone has entered (and then left) the shower, then have the device run automatically. Maybe another sensor to alert you when it needed a refill. Someone please make this!
