Summer forest as sunset approaches, Mattatuck State Forest, Plymouth, Connecticut. June 17, 2021, 8:17 PM.

Walking a wide path through a leafy forest of hardwoods carpeted with ferns. We are at the beginning of a long descent off a mountain. The setting sun is offscreen to our left, casting long shadows and tinting the left side of many of the trees a bright golden orange. Ahead down the hill we can see a bright patch in the shady woods, where a clearing of some kind is allowing much more sun through.

Looking across a large lake covered with hundreds of lily pads. The sun has set, the twilight is dimmed further by a towering, dark gray thunderhead that passed just a few miles to our northwest. Its tail end is drifting past on our right, clearing out of the way of some streaky hazy high clouds that are being tinted orange, gold and pink by the rays of the recently set sun. The far shore of the lake is wooded, as are a nearby peninsula to our left and a small island straight ahead.

Standing on the shore of a lake in a grove of stately shade trees. The floor of the grove is covered with thickets of tall grass and leafy shoots, a nearby bush is covered with pale yellow blossoms. A good fresh onshore breeze is causing lines of small waves to break upon the shore and ruffling the leaves overhead. The sun is low above the forest along the far shore. A pale orange blob in the soft, hazy summer sky, it is shining through the branches and creating a cluster of orange sparkles on the lake below.

We are standing close to a lake. Between us and the lake is a small thicket of cattails, tall grasses, daisies and yellow wildflowers. The far shore of the lake is wooded. The sky is mostly clouded up except for a break near the horizon where the sky is gold tinted from the recently set sun. The sun is painting the bottoms of the clouds purple with dramatic streaks of fiery orange near the horizon and dark pink above us. All of this is mirrored on the slightly rippled surface of the lake below.

On a warm summer afternoon, in the shade of a massive old maple tree beside a large lake rippled by a nice fresh breeze. The tree is formed by two separate trees that grew together long ago. It has many branches and spreads out across a wide area over and next to the lake. The ground around the tree is a carpet of low leafy ground cover, with some tall water grasses in the shallows just beyond the tree.

Bright orange and pale violet sunset, New Britain Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. September 17, 2019, 6:56 PM.

A late September evening. The sun has recently set, the sky is a pale blue gray with a tinge of gold along the horizon. Three dark gray cloud clusters and scattering of small solitary clouds drift across the sky. Two of the clusters and most of the solo clouds are painted with splashes of bright orange from the post sunset rays. The third, just above the horizon is tinted pale violet. All this is mirrored on the very slightly rippled lake surface. Across the lake, a forest looks dark and mysterious in the twilight. We are standing on a small peninsula of jagged light beige rocks, with a few small green shoots and shrubs where scraps of soil can be found.

We are standing in a very green bog surrounding the slow moving inlet stream of a large lake in the background. The sun has set and much of the sky is tinted pink, reflected in the lake and stream below. The lake and bog are surrounded by forest. The bog is covered with lush green grasses, a few gray boulders and many tall water grasses and leafy shrubs. A line of clouds just along the far horizon is tinted slightly blue. Some scattered clouds in the mostly clear sky above are tinted pink.
