This Is My Glasgow<p>The Bain Street entrance to the Barras Market in Glasgow. The market, more formerly known as Barrowland, was founded in the 1920s by James and Maggie McIver and has been a Glasgow institution ever since.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/thebarras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thebarras</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/streetphotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>streetphotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>I love the shapes on this polychromatic brick former industrial building on Moncur Street in Glasgow, especially the pediments at the top. Designed by M. Forsyth and built in the 1870s, it was originally part of the William Whyte's and Son clay pipe works, which had been based on the neighbouring Gibson Street since 1824.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/thebarras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thebarras</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/brickwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>brickwork</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/polychromaticbrick" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>polychromaticbrick</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>This is a rather satisfyingly-proportioned former industrial building by the Barras on London Road in Glasgow. Designed by G.S. Hill, it was constructed for Charles Lindsay in 1905 as part of his Rumford Ironmongery works (most of which was situated behind it, and was accessed by the central pend). </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowbuildings" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowbuildings</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecturephotography" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecturephotography</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/londonroad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>londonroad</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/thebarras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thebarras</span></a></p>
This Is My Glasgow<p>The sign above on of the entrances to The Barras, Glasgow's legendary market, where, in its heyday, it was said pretty much anything could be found for sale. It was started in the years after World War One by James and Maggie McIver who rented barrows to local traders in a yard in Marshall Lane. In 1926, the space was covered with a roof to create a more permanent market space.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgow" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgow</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/architecture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>architecture</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/glasgowhistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glasgowhistory</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/thebarras" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thebarras</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/barrowlandballroom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>barrowlandballroom</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/sign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sign</span></a></p>
