Auf die Minute genau vor sieben Jahren (am 22. Mai 2018 um 21:47 Uhr) hieß es „Liftoff for GRACE Follow-On“.

Kurze Zeit später erreichte die Klimaforschungsmission aus zwei Satelliten die Erdumlaufbahn. An Bord hat sie ein neuartiges, in Hannover entwickeltes Laser-Interferometer. Es dient dazu, das Erdschwerefeld zu vermessen und so das Abschmelzen der polaren Eismassen und Veränderungen im Grundwasserpegel zu überwachen.

Erste Beobachtungsdaten gab es im Sommer 2018. Seitdem läuft das System zuverlässig und liefert regulär hochpräzise Messungen.

* It’s about 13 years ago now that I thought I could ride up the mountain a few miles myself. More dead than alive, I still succeeded in taking a nice series of photos. I really liked exaggerated colours back then. So this photo looks like a combination of photo and painting.

Several spectators are standing along the road after the Giro peloton has passed. The man in the centre is wearing a fluorescent yellow rain jacket. To his left are young people with modified trial bikes. To the right of the road, people with umbrellas are walking back down the mountain.

Rain falling from dark clouds over mountains. But is it reaching the ground? Scenic photo in Rocky Mountain National Park, looking west from Trail Ridge Road over Forest Canyon toward the Never Summer Range. Dark gray clouds above a shadowed mountain ridge at left, with streaks of rain falling that may or may not be reaching the ground. The right half of the image is sunlit valley with a range of mountains in the background, bright white clouds above. The air is typically very dry and rain often falls but doesn’t reach the ground. It’s called virga. Not to be confused with verga, which means penis in Spanish. September 2004.

For #ThrowbackThursday here's a look at one of Primrose's adorable habits: resting with her leg up on another cat.

The first photo was taken five years ago right after I caught her and brought her inside. As illustrated by the second photo, she still does that to this day. And, even better, her kids do it too, with Lydia demonstrating in the third photo.

A photo featuring a young Primrose, a brown tabby cat, resting on her side on a burgundy carpet with her back left leg resting on the shoulders of her grey tabby daughter Sumie. There are scattered cat toys around them, trying to keep them occupied while in quarantine.

A photo featuring an older Primrose on the right as she and her identical daughter Petunia are on a white blanket on a bed. Primrose again is on her side with her back left leg propped up on her daughter's shoulders (though a different daughter; Petunia was still inside Primrose in the older photo).

Meanwhile, on a different bed with pink and purple blankets, Lydia is on her side sleeping with her back left leg across the back/shoulders of her big brother Vincent, posing just like her mother.

Orange Hawkweed growing in my hometown of Meriden, NH (June 2015). It's not native to the US, but grows all over New England and elsewhere.

Locally, we called it "Indian paintbrush," although that name is more commonly used for a different plant out West. In the UK, it's known as "Fox-and-cubs." #ThrowbackThursday #NewHampshire #FujifilmXE2
