Emeritus Prof Christopher May<p>Perhaps searching for good strap lines on local <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/election" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>election</span></a> leaflets, Mark Harper (<a href="https://zirk.us/tags/Tory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tory</span></a> transport secretary) has stepped into to tell train operators they cannot (as part of cost-cutting proposals) close <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/TicketOffices" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TicketOffices</span></a>. </p><p>Pressure gorups have received over 750k communications on this issue of which 99% were apparently opposed to the shouting of ticket offices.</p><p>Given the also increasingly apparent issue for <a href="https://zirk.us/tags/disabled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>disabled</span></a> passengers & thus likely legal challenge, the UTurn now seemed inevitable!</p>

Mark Burton<p>One thing that hasn't been mentioned (I think) in the UK <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/TicketOffices" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TicketOffices</span></a> closure discussion is the idea of extending their functions.<br>Example.<br>On a recent trip to Liverpool we had to come back by bus. No National Express office in the city. Why not add the function (with adequate staffing) at Lime Street station.<br>Could also add tourist office functions like accommodation.</p>
