Reflections of Still Waters

This is a pond slider turtle (Trachemys scripta) resting on a log in the heart of Kisatchie Lake, nestled within Louisiana’s Kisatchie National Forest. The forest’s reflection in the lake adds a striking, almost dreamlike quality to the scene—something I find particularly captivating.

Found a little pop of colour, matching my shirt 😊 :
a Midland Painted Turtle hatchling, far away from any water. She slept in my hands while I carried her 2 km to the nearest pond.
Who knows how she got on that dusty logging road.

A tiny turtle held between thumb and index finger. The plastron (the shell on the belly) is bright orange with black markings along the centre. The person holding the turtle wears a shirt of the same colour, orange.

Die Falsche Landkarten-Höckerschildkröte ist eine von drei invasiven Schildkrötenarten, die sich im Südwesten Deutschlands ausbreiten und sich vermehren. Bei den anderen beiden Arten handelt es sich um die Gewöhnliche Schmuckschildkröte und die Nordamerikanische Buchstaben-Schmuckschildkröte. Bis vor kurzen war man noch davon ausgegangen, dass sich diese Schildkröten in Mitteleuropa, v.a. aufgrund des kühleren Klimas, nicht fortpflanzen können.
