Snapping Turtle crossing the trail at Burrage Pond. Only about a 12" shell, so far from the largest one I've seen.

Oh Turtle, turtle...
Seen in profile,
Little dry smile,
Such ancient wisdom

#Endangered #turtles share this #Mexican beach with #SpaceX rocket debris. The company says there’s no risk of harm [Sure. We totally believe you, Elon!]
After the recent explosion of a SpaceX rocket on June 19, the NGO reported that some large fragments appeared in Mexican territory the next morning.

TMNT Reborn brought major changes and modernisations in terms of content, concept and, above all, personnel. I discuss all the important elements of the story and which topics are covered with Ninja Turtle expert Konrad,

Usually when I'm driving I see only crushed turtles at the stretch of road marked with a turtle crossing sign , But today I saw a live one venturing forth. I pulled over, went back, carefully picked it up, and carried it over to the water on the other side of the road. When I set it down, it trundled off quickly toward the water.
I felt so happy! #turtles

#Reptiles are fascinating creatures who are sadly feared, misunderstood and persecuted by humans. It's time we stand up for #lizards #snakes #crocodiles #turtles, here's how, be #vegan and #Boycottpalmoil

On today's ride another snapping turtle laying eggs. This right on the side of a paved road. I hope everything works out turtle!

Two turtle species on one log: the small ones are Midland Painted, the two big ones with a yellow throat are Blanding's Turtles, listed as endangered species in Canada.
Biked through trailhead parking lot on this morning’s random bike wanderings and ran across another snapping turtle. Not sure if it’s thinking of laying eggs (this is a little shelter w/picnic tables) or is just passing through.

I am part of a Turtle Watch in our little town.
We walk several routes, helping them navigate the busy roads. This time of year is nesting season. We cover the nests when found with a couple of layers of grills (chicken wire, metal fence and a plastic fine mesh which comes off just before hatching in august), which keeps the predators (raccoons, mink, etc) at bay.
A snapper lays about 40 eggs at a time.
Only 1% of hatchlings make it to maturity, so 1 in 2 nests worth.
We have worked with the city, conservation authority and a local utility to fence off roads to prevent road deaths.
Also, don't laugh, we have a wonderful turtle rehab centre in the middle of the province. Takes turtles from all over the province to help injured turtles. Females which don't make it have their eggs harvested and sent back to the area they came from for incubation.

Snapping turtle in our local creek. About 16” shell from neck to tail. At first all we could see was a female mallard struggling in the water. Then we saw the turtle had the duck’s foot in its mouth. Mr. Masked climbed down the retaining wall to frighten the turtle and luckily it worked & the duck got away, swimming downstream to join her baby daddy & ducklings. I think the turtle is now giving us the stink eye. #wildlife #turtles #kentucky #mastoDogs #DogsOfMastodon
