Starting a thread with short animations I made through the years.
Here's a logo intro for a client (2009). Mastodon doesn't show the pause at the end of the animation.
The final post in this thread with my Mario works through the years is a portrait of Mario's original adversary, Mr. D. Kong (2022).
SolidWorks Certification… With FreeCAD? - There are various CAD challenges out there that come with bragging rights. Some, l... - https://hackaday.com/2025/11/05/solidworks-certification-with-freecad/ #softwarehacks #tutorialvideo #3dmodeling #freecad

Continuing this thread with my Mario-related tributes through the years, here's Mario's trusty companion Yoshi (2022).
Mega Mario (2023), a love child of Mario and Mega Man.
See other posts in this thread for more Mario.
I guess this thread has made clear that I kind of worship Mario.
Modeled this scene in SDF Modeler in 2025, rendered using LuxCoreRender in Blender.
So #3dprinting community: say I want to learn some basic #3dmodeling skills in, say #Blender. What's the best way to learn? I am an IT guy with more or less zero artistic skill beyond some basic Photoshop.
The Mario thread is not over yet…
Here is the professional at work.
The Mario thread continues…
Here's Mario surrounded by his mushroom friends (2021), based on a concept by Dave Mottram.
My next Mario tribute in this thread is the poor guy being chased by a Chain Chomp (2021).
Continuing my Mario works thread, here he is about to enter the world of the Switch (2020), based on a concept by the NestStrix Studio.
One of my original starship 3d models.
Enjoy.
The dingus fully assembled and on its stand. The body is painted gun metal. But again, the top faceplate is not quite accurate. It's too light of a grey, but it's the best I have for now. Also still waiting on one more chrome knob. If/when I do end up printing a new faceplate, the little faux grilles on the left need to go down a bit. Especially if I eventually add the mystery button.
There is a LCD and RasPi 3 in there, but electronics are still TBD[IIADA] - to be determined if I actually do anything.
I can't seem to find a better shade of grey acrylic for the Hybrid Controller faceplate. Even my go-to bulk supplier doesn't have one. It's either charcoal, which I have, or gray/silver, which I also have. So I'll just settle with the current too-light plate for now. If I run across a mid-gray acrylic I'll cut another plate.
Currently painting the body (Tamiya gun metal) and printing a stand. The I'll re-assemble (minus one knob until my parts boombox arrives).
Q: Why don't you just paint it?
A: b/c it already is painted. That's how the lettering is blacked in. It's laser-etched with the backing paper on, then black is sprayed into the etched bits, then the paper removed. I would need to paint it, re-paper it, etch and cute it, and I just don't wanna go that route. I want the top to have the smooth gloss of cast acrylic.
One of my original starship 3d models. (Space Pirate ship)
Enjoy.
Happy Halloween!
Here are some spooky works I made through the years, in different 2D and 3D styles.
Right color (mostly, i'm gonna keep looking) acrylic arrived today. Cut and etched and it looks good. Just painting the right and I'll post pics.
Also the crhome knobs from the Unitech boombox came today and jesus jones do they look so so good. But there are only two. So... I bought a for-parts Unitech CX-955 of eBay to salvage another knob. They just look too good not to.
Just need to paint the body (Tamiya gun metal) and then decide how much time I wanna invest in the electronics/screen. Also the ring on the left is not shown here. I just painted it and it's drying.

The final friendly robot.
The "M" is partly narcissism and partly because SDF Modeler doesn't have type objects yet, so an "M" is easy to construct with rectangles.

Friendly robot update in SDF Modeler…
Changed and added several elements. Work will continue tomorrow.
