Journal – Week 32, August 2025

A relatively relaxed week. Mum had a few appointments where she was away a bit from time to time. Bas stayed with us the whole week, so when mum was doing her things, I tried my best to take care of the little fluffball. He did his best and was quite a good boy with me. Friday afternoon, I finally had some physio again, which was very much needed, as my neck, shoulders, and head were killing me. I slowly made some progress throughout the week. On Sunday, mum helped me shower. A part of a suture thread came out of the wound. And mum and I started working on a puzzle together…

Some warmer weather and a bit (a lot) less rain than the previous week.. So not too bad, all in all, weather wise… Good enough weather for some walkies with the little furball!

Journal – Week 31, July/August 2025

It’s been quite a week. On Monday, we went to the GP to have bits of my stitches removed. Tuesday was a more relaxing day. Wednesday we went to Nijmegen, where we did groceries, had the hairdresser, picked up Bas, and mum had an appointment in Herpen after all that. On Thursday, mum went to Germany, while I stayed home with Bas. Friday was another relaxing day. Mum went to Nijmegen on Saturday, while a friend was coming to visit me. To my surprise, she brought back Bas again, so I got loads of extra cuddles. Saturday I really felt tired and sore, so I took it easy. On Sunday, I felt a bit better, and mostly thanks to little Bas, I was able to get quite a few steps in. While I was happy at the start of the week that my hematoma seemed to be easing up, now a new one is resurfacing and it is almost more painful than the first one… Which is affecting my mood, sleep and ability to do my exercises.

The week starts on Tuesday this time, because I was too late on Monday to have the Monday stats be included… The weather would not be too hot, and there was a bit of rain expected every now and then…

Journal – Week 30, July 2025

The week started OK enough. Mum went to Nijmegen for a bit on Monday, while I chatted and gamed a bit with a sweet friend. On Tuesday, mum had to go to Nijmegen again for an appointment. And on Wednesday, we went to Nijmegen together. Mum had planned to take Bas back with us, as she feels he’s happier with us than with dad (probably because we care for his needs and give him proper attention). Thursday, mum and I went to Germany, for some groceries, and back via Nijmegen, to take the groceries to dad. Friday, we went to Schaijk to get the ash pendant made for me… On Saturday, mum took Bas back home to Nijmegen and she was gone for a few hours, as dad had asked for her help with some things. Sunday we took things easy as we didn’t have any appointments nor a dog to take care of…

The temperatures look decent enough, just a lot of rain predicted for this week…

previous two days were an exception in my weeks-long #LikaLodge solitude : I had guests! We played games, plucked strawberries & cherries, cooked &ate together, played with puppies, and had long walks : mostly all of those activities with the dog too! One night it was even raining & storming, the atmosphere inside was of a “mountain hut”/ (planinarski dom) : tea, dog, wet clothes, many people in small rooms :) // now they went on #InterRail -ing & I’m alone with birds, trees, insects #diary

Today in ‘Samuel Pepys’ Diary Reimagined’:

‘What in the dark ages of the internet were unsolicited e-mails with “funny” video attachments (which back then took fifteen and more minutes to download and weren’t funny in the slightest), are nowadays links to “funny,” “amazing” “AI”-generated content (which destroys the environment and human brains and is not funny or amazing in the slightest) […]’

🔴 Six months. Two rounds of peer review. Then, a rejection — with no meaningful explanation.

When journals ask authors to thoroughly revise a manuscript and engage constructively with feedback, they carry a responsibility too: to evaluate the revised work fairly & transparently.

What makes this more disappointing is that the journal in question is European Science Editing, published by an organization that advocates for ethical and responsible editorial practices.
