A stranger’s rude question left me in fear of one word

"All this, I later learned, meant I technically qualified as disabled, but I never thought of myself that way.

I remember having this preconceived idea of what being disabled looked like: either you were a wheelchair user or someone who was hard of hearing and that was it. There was no in-between, no grey area."

July is Disability Pride Month, and this year marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a groundbreaking civil rights law that transformed the landscape of accessibility and inclusion in the U.S.

At #DemocratsAbroad, we stand in solidarity with the disability community, this month and every month, to ensure every voice is heard, at home and at the ballot box.

Let’s vote for leaders who believe in equity for all.

Emergency mutual aid post because I’m a struggling disabled artist whose birthday is in four days (during Disability Pride Month) and I’m just hoping to get my family’s basic needs met for the next few days. My partner @magicalgrrrl makes regular mutual aid posts to keep us sheltered, fed, and medicated.
