Berkeley Zen Center will hold a memorial celebration for Alan Senauke, one of the great engaged Buddhist leaders, on Sunday Aug 10, 10am-2pm. The venue is The Freight, in downtown Berkeley. Senauke passed away just before Christmas, as he was preparing to co-teach a graduate course on Engaged Buddhism at the Institute for Buddhist Studies. The event will include a service, live music, snacks, and many stories from friends and students. It will be livestreamed

Tacoma Buddhist Temple deeply benefited in its early decades from the Puyallup Tribe's friendship. When white settlers prevented Japanese Buddhist immigrants from farming, the Puyallup provided opportunities to farm and thus survive. Similar situations happened with other temples in the region. The Tacoma temple has created a land acknowledgement and is building ties of gratitude with the Puyallup
