📚️ Super Smash Bros. Melee (SSBM, Melee) is a 3D multiplayer fighting game released for GameCube in 2001, a sequel to Super Smash Bros. (for the Nintendo 64 in 1999), whose goal now is to do maximum damage to his opponents. Here, too, the player plays as characters from Nintendo video games. Slippi is an emulator derived from Dolphin, modernizing the game (unified interface, support for modern hardware, netplay, matchmaking, game statistics, etc.).

🕶️ The game screen is very small (corresponding to the specifications of the NES, whose display is 256×240 pixels). A bird's-eye view of a Zelda-style game, where Link (the protagonist) is walking along a paved road, approaching a house in the middle of the woods. A mini-map at top left suggests a very large map.

📚️ ZQuest Classic is a libre, multi-platform, mature action-RPG engine, that comes with a clone of the NES version of The Legend of Zelda (1986, Nintendo). It lets you play numerous games (700 quests as of June 2023, mostly Zelda-like) designed by the community, and easily develop them thanks to its comprehensive, intuitive editor, which requires no programming (apart from the optional scripting language for extended functions), and also delivers data sets (traditional/improved). The project has brought together a community that has developed significant content, and its development is sustained.

🕶️ A side view of the demo delivered with the engine (called Adventure of Demo, X-Tech engine version 1.3.4, tested on my Linux PC). It's a Mario-like game, but with its own original content, and the whole thing is really neat. There are cakes to collect on and under the platform.

📚️ TheXTech is a libre and multi-platform engine (and game), allowing the creation of games similar to Super Mario Bros. It is a faithful rewriting (but in C++, and multi-platform) of the SMBX engine, a Super Mario Bros engine written by fans (in VB6, only for Windows). TheXTech will remain the "vanilla" version (the equivalent of Chocolate Doom for Doom), with gameplay faithful to SMBX, while the PGE engine (from the same authors) is an improved version (the equivalent of GZDoom for Doom). TheXTech comes with a very impressive demo, allowing you to play Super Mario Bros, in solo or multiplayer, with many levels, in windowed or full screen, with the keyboard or the gamepad. Excellent!

A mature game designed by and for gamers, with scenarios, handpicked maps, over 400 different units designed with great care, a new multithreaded path system and OpenGL 4 support allowing the game to be played with over 10000 units at over 100 FPS in 4K, reworked lights, shadows and fog, a lobby client (also mature, for single-player / multi-player, co-op vs other players and/or AIs, scenarios, rating, content loading, ...). It's a neat game that offers in-game help to get started, solo/multiplayer, map editor and game save / load. Very good !

🕶️ An FPS view at the end of a game (v. 7.71.7, on my PC), I've just fragged Beavis, an alien (an AI), his green blood is spattered on the ground (and the alien will soon ‘evaporate’), a score table is displayed in the centre of the screen, and an end result (number of frags, deaths and leader) is displayed in the top right-hand corner.

📚️ Alien Arena (Alien Arena: Warriors of Mars, formely CodeRED: Alien Arena) is a partially libre (free data) FPS, with a multiplayer focus (single-player against AIs is available for training purposes) on a retro-scientific theme straight out of the film Mars Attack (by Tim Burton) and with gameplay that mixes Unreal Tournament and Quake, all in commercial quality. The game is packed with graphical effects (fog, dynamic lighting, light distortion and rain effects), Doppler sound effects, Ragdolls physics, dozens of high-quality maps with or without AIs, a host of weapons, a simple lobby client, the ability to host games and a fast-paced soundtrack.

📚️ Space Station 14 is a libre, multi-platform online sandbox action RPG (derived from the game Space Station 13, which it improves and liberates) where players live aboard a space station, all with great freedom of action and scenarios (depending on the servers). Some players play as members of the space station, with different roles assigned, others are assigned antagonistic roles, with the objective of disrupting the station's mission. It can also be played as a simple shooter on the same station! Excellent!

📚️ Charge Kid is a libre (commercial binary), multi-platform puzzle platformer whose objective is to reach the next platform through a thoughtful combination of mechanics and physics. The player has limited resources to complete each jump. The difficulty lies not so much in the precision of the jump as in the use of the limited resources available. The game features precise controls, multiple solution puzzles, quality pixel-art graphics, soundtrack and sound effects.

The beatmaps (assembly of music + playing elements) are designed by the community. Points are awarded according to the quality of the player's playing. An AppImage package is available.

📚️ Super Mario War is a libre (except for the graphics: fair use), multi-platform, single-player (AI) / multi (up to 4 in hotseat/LAN), Super Smash Bros. combat game featuring characters from Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. series. The goal is to crush your opponents by jumping on their heads or using powerups. It offers a huge amount of content (29 characters, 22 mods with modifiers, 300 animated maps, LAN multiplayer, a level and world editor. A very high quality game. The best.

(for the Nintendo 64 in 1999), whose goal now is to do maximum damage to his opponents. Here, too, the player plays as characters from Nintendo video games. Slippi is an emulator derived from Dolphin, modernizing the game (unified interface, support for modern hardware, netplay, matchmaking, game statistics, etc.).
