CETA was successfully challenged in the Supreme Court by @costellop who argued that the proposed Investor Court System "would be unconstitutional as it transfers vital elements of the State’s sovereignty to external institutions not accountable to the Irish legal system."
The incoming government is now choosing to ignore that threat and bypass the constitution through legislation. This is a regressive policy which should not be allowed to proceed.
The incoming government's proposal to go ahead with the ratification of the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) with Canada risks damaging Ireland's ability to deliver on its climate commitments. The threat of legal action under the Investor Courts is a real threat to climate action and progressive public policy.
