"Now thought to be the second most common cause of stroke in women under 40, it can also lead to difficulty swallowing, incontinence, seizures, memory problems, depression, anxiety and miscarriage. How has this extreme practice been normalised?

Now that Lucy has been in a steady relationship for a year, she finds herself looking back at previous sexual encounters through a new lens. The slaps to her face. Hands round her neck. The multiple late-night messages from one partner – nine years older and, in her words, “a Tinder situation”: “Can I come over and rape you?”
“I like to think I enjoyed my single 20s,” says Lucy, now 24. “I was an avid Hinge and Tinder user and I liked to think of myself as the ‘cool girl’. But I’ve been thinking about it so much – I’m not sure why. There was the friend of a friend who slapped me so hard in the middle of us having sex – no warning, just from nowhere. It actually made my teeth rattle. There was another guy I met at a bar. We got together that night and he started choking me so hard, I felt this sharp pressure, this pain I’d never experienced before. I was drunk but it sobered me up in one second. I still wonder what he did to me to cause that pain.”
Never was “rough sex” discussed before, during or after. “Among my friends, there’s this competitiveness about not being boring, not being ‘vanilla’. I think it’s very prevalent for women my age, and no one wants to kink-shame anyone,” says Lucy (not her real name). “There’s a lot of talk about online porn and what that has done to men’s brains and expectations, but I also saw a lot of very violent porn when I was a teenager. I don’t know why or how I found it. The women in porn never push back or say, ‘Don’t do that’ when they’re choked. I think I became quite performative. I like to think I’m a strong woman but … I don’t know if it’s about male validation.”
Growing concern around the normalisation of “choking” – ie strangulation – during sex has led to the recent announcement that pornography depicting it will be criminalised in an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill.

It has become so standard among young people that one recent council-funded sex education presentation for Welsh secondary schoolchildren included “safe” choking advice such as: “It is never OK to start choking someone without asking them first …” and: “Consent should also happen every time sexual choking is an option, not just the first time.” When the presentation was made public, Fiona Mackenzie, the founder of campaigning group We Can’t Consent to This (WCCTT), was “absolutely furious but not at all surprised”.
Mackenzie formed WCCTT at the end of 2018 in response to the growing number of women and girls killed or injured in violence claimed to be consensual. How has the landscape changed in the years since?
“When we began, we were focusing on two aspects,” says Mackenzie. “The first was the men who were successfully using the ‘rough sex defence’ to murder women, claiming it was consensual and therefore getting away with it or getting ludicrously short sentences. The other part, which is the part I didn’t realise was an issue until a month or two in, was that so many young women were being strangled by their sexual partners.”
Almost seven years on, there’s been progress on the first part. The Domestic Abuse Act of 2021 clarified that a person cannot consent to being harmed for the purpose of sexual gratification and also made non-fatal strangulation a specific criminal offence. Before that, it fell under general offences such as battery, the mildest assault possible. “The major win for us is that [when women are] subjected to a non-fatal or a fatal assault during sex, there will be a much better response from the criminal justice system,” says Mackenzie. “There have been several cases since where the men have been prosecuted and convicted for murder by juries and given long sentences.”
On the second aspect, though – the normalisation of strangulation during sex – Mackenzie believes the situation has only worsened. “I’d hoped that lots of other charities and sex educators, the government and academics would get behind it, but instead what we’ve got is this completely mad idea that we can somehow help women to keep having violent sex but in a safer way. Maybe in a hi-vis jacket?”

New Hampshire lawmakers on Thursday gave final approval to bills that would ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors in the state, sending the measures to Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte, who has not yet said whether she will sign them.

State lawmakers voted to pass House Bill 377, which would prohibit doctors from administering puberty blockers and hormones to transgender youth beginning next year. The measure includes a “grandfather clause” that would allow minors already receiving care to continue doing so even after the law takes effect.

"New Hampshire lawmakers gave final passage to a pair of bills Thursday that ban most gender-affirming care for transgender minors in the state.

One of the bills forbids doctors from administering puberty blockers or hormone treatments to patients younger than 18. Patients already receiving those treatments before the end of this year would still be allowed to continue.

The other bill prohibits gender-affirming chest surgeries for people before the age of 18.

The bills now pass to Governor Kelly Ayotte for her signature. A spokesperson for the governor did not say whether she planned to sign them.

State House Republicans made it a priority this legislative session to fight what they call “radical gender ideology."

It’s a continuation of a recent trend in Concord. Last year, lawmakers limited gender-affirming surgeries for minors and outlawed trans girls from competing in girls’ sports.

Most major medical societies in the U.S. support access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth. But Republican lawmakers — in New Hampshire and elsewhere — say those treatments are inappropriate for children and question their side effects."

Traynor has now breached the S3x Offenders’ Register FOUR times.

Despite labelling him “high risk,” Prosecutor Tim Devlin handed him a suspended sentence.

"A “high-risk” Isle of Wight paedophile caught with over 700,000 child sex abuse images in 2017 has avoided jail after breaching the Sex Offenders’ Register for the fourth time.

Peter Trayner, of Queens Road, Freshwater, attended the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday, June 13, for sentencing.

The 76-year-old had previously admitted failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Prosecutor Tim Devlin said Trayner is deemed a high-risk offender, convicted of possessing indecent images of children in 2016, 2017 and 2023.

'High risk' paedophile pensioner breaches court order AGAIN

Mr Devlin told the court that Trayner was due to register with police on April 26 but was two days late, breaching his order for the fourth time.

The previous occasion he breached was in June last year when he failed to register a bank card, receiving a community order on August 30, the court heard.

Mr Devlin described Trayner as a “persistent” breacher.

Oscar Vincent, defending, decided not to present mitigation after Judge William Ashworth indicated he would give Trayner a suspended sentence.

At a previous court appearance, Mr Vincent said his client was elderly and suffered from memory lapses, assuring the court ‘none of it was deliberate’.

Judge Ashworth said Trayner had previously been sent to prison for 29 months after 738,000 indecent images of children were found on his computer.

He also told Trayner: “You are a risk of further offending.”

Despite this, Judge Ashworth said he would hand Trayner a “short, suspended sentence.”

Trayner received four months custody, suspended for 12 months.

No extra community element was added to Trayner’s sentence because he is still subject to a community order."

"Four days after U.S. gymnast Simone Biles personally attacked Riley Gaines for standing up for fairness in women's sports, Biles issued an apology. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist also slightly adjusted her previous stance on transgender athletes in women's sports.

"I wanted to follow up from my last tweets. I’ve always believed competitive equity & inclusivity are both essential in sport," Biles wrote on X.

"The current system doesn’t adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didn’t help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for," the post said.

Biles then seemed to adjust her earlier take on transgender athletes in women's sports.

"These are sensitive, complicated issues that I truly don’t have the answers or solutions to, but I believe it starts with empathy and respect. I was not advocating for policies that compromise fairness in women’s sports," Biles wrote. "My objection is to be singling out children for public scrutiny in ways that feel personal and harmful. Individual athletes—especially kids—should never be the focus of criticism of a flawed system they have no control over. I believe sports organizations have a responsibility to come up with rules supporting inclusion while maintaining fair competition. We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful."

Gaines Accepts Apology
Gaines followed shortly after with a post accepting Biles' apology.

"I accept Simone's apology for the personal attacks including the ones where she body-shamed me," Gains wrote. "I know she knows what this feels like. She's still the greatest female gymnast of all time," Gaines responded.

Good for her for apologizing, particularly for the personal attack on Riley Gaines. On Friday, Biles tweeted at Gaines, saying that the former Kentucky swimmer is "truly sick" for trying to protect women's sports from the invasion of biological males. Biles then "body-shamed" Gaines and said, essentially, that Gaines looks like a man.

The post is admirable, whether it was written entirely by Biles or massaged by a PR team. "

A masked pro-trans protestor was arrested at the California state high school track-and-field championships this weekend after being witnessed using a Progress Pride flag to attack a demonstrator at the controversial meet.

Ethan Kroll is identified as the 19-year-old man booked Friday for assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, obstructing public officer and vandalism under $400, according to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office website. Kroll was released on Saturday evening.
The arrest was first reported by local media after viral video of the incident was recorded by Josh Fulfer, a crowd-funded reporter protesting in support of 'the female athletes that were having to compete against a male,' as he told Fresno's Fox affiliate.

This weekend's meet outside Fresno was the latest front line in the ongoing debate over trans athletes in female sports. In defiance of Donald Trump and his executive order, trans athlete AB Hernandez claimed gold in the girls high jump and triple jump at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state finals.
'We were out there for a couple of hours, had no incident whatsoever,' Fulfer told Fox 26 of his protests on Friday.
After seeing the masked protester, Fulfer admittedly said something amounting to: 'If you're so proud of your cause, why do you have a mask on?'

'Next thing I know, that person is darting out across the intersection and I hit 'record' when they're about 10 feet away. And they started assaulting me with the flagpole through my driver's-side window.'
Fulfer said he reached for his pepper spray at the urging of his wife and sprayed the protestor in the face.
'That got the flagpole out of the vehicle, and then they started vandalizing the car, hitting the top of the roof of the car and the door of the car.'
After running a red light and finding a safe place to park, Fulfer said he got out to witness Clovis (California) police jumping the fence to make the arrest.
Fufler said he suffered some bruises and scrapes as a result of the attack.
Police have said an investigation is ongoing.
Daily Mail's attempts to reach Kroll have been unsuccessful. An attorney for Kroll was not listed on the Fresno County Sheriff's Office website.
As for the meet, Hernandez competed under a new rule, allowing for the possibility of multiple winners in events in which she competed.
Hernandez finished the high jump with a mark of 5-foot-7 (1.7 meters), with no failed attempts. Co-winners Jillene Wetteland and Lelani Laruelle also cleared that height after each logged a failed attempt. The three shared the first-place win, smiling as they stepped together onto the podium.

Hernandez wrapped up the night with a first-place finish in the triple jump, sharing the top spot with Kira Gant Hatcher who trailed by just over a half-meter. Earlier in the afternoon, Hernandez placed second in the long jump.
The CIF announced the new policy earlier this week in response to Hernandez's success heading into the championships. Under the policy, the federation allowed an additional student to compete and medal in the events where Hernandez qualified.
Protestor speaks out on trans California high school athlete

The two-day championship kicked off Friday in sweltering heat at a high school near Fresno. Temperatures reached the triple digits during Saturday's finals.
The atmosphere was relatively quiet despite critics - including parents, conservative activists and President Donald Trump - calling for Hernandez to be barred from competing. Some critics wore pink bracelets and T-shirts that read, 'Save Girls' Sports.'
During Friday's qualifying events, an aircraft circled above the stadium for more than an hour with a banner: 'No Boys in Girls' Sports!' Two groups that oppose transgender athletes participating in women's sports - the Independent Council on Women's Sports and Women Are Real - took credit for flying the banner.

The federation's rule change reflected efforts to find a middle ground in the debate over trans girls' participation in youth sports.
'The CIF values all of our student-athletes and we will continue to uphold our mission of providing students with the opportunity to belong, connect, and compete while complying with California law,' the group said in a statement after announcing its rule change."
