With #exascale #supercomputers now a reality, the focus has shifted to optimizing energy consumption to ensure the cost of powering the system over its lifetime does not exceed the cost of the system itself

Modelling a single cancer cell in a sea of blood
Relying on a hybrid CPU–GPU architecture on the #Summit #supercomputer, the team was able to extend their adaptive physics refinement (APR) method to track an individual #cancer cell as it moved through the bloodstream

Seeing #cancer's spread through a computational window
"The most cells that we have ever simulated at one time is 580 million
Our goal was to maximize the window size to see how many cells we could capture using a leadership class supercomputer"

Future is Sparse: Methods and Tools for Sparse Computations
#SC23 Presentation by Rich Vuduc (@hpcgarage )
#SC23 was a blast as it is every year. The caliber of conversations I have at this conference are unmatched by any other. Thanks to everyone who made it possible and stopped by to say hey. Here are a few random snaps of my time in Denver with @almalinux
Intel and Argonne demonstrated the acceleration of science at scale enabled by the system capabilities and software stack on the #Aurora #supercomputer
Examples:
o Connectomics ML
o GAMESS
o HACC
o Aurora Drug Discovery ESP

I know everyone is nervous about the @top500supercomp FLOPS/Watt for Aurora on social. #SC23 #IamHPC
But...did someone inquire if the reported 24,687kW are also half the system? My personal suspicion is that this could () be the full system power, too.
This could have a few practical reasons (speculation)
The HPL benchmark could not be run to full size during attempts. The reported number is how far it got so far.
And/or
The power for half of the system cannot be measured independently.
