It's Going Down<p>Today in <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Atlanta" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Atlanta</span></a>, just as the family of Manuel <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Tortuguita" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Tortuguita</span></a> Teran was giving a press conference about how an independent autopsy reveled that Teran was executed in a barrage of over 13 bullets on January 18th, a vast army of various law enforcement agencies was deploying into the Weelaunee forest. </p><p>One journalist reported, it "looks like a war zone right now. Heavily-armed members of law enforcement are clearing out the forest and have escorted in construction workers to make way for the facility." </p><p>Calls for solidarity and 'weeks of action' have been broadcast over movement media accounts like <span class="h-card"><a href="https://kolektiva.social/@defendATLforest" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>defendATLforest</span></a></span>. </p><p>Also the movement claimed another victory, as Quality Glass Company has officially dropped out of the project and cut ties with Brasfield & Gorrie, one of the major contractors tasked with building cop city. "Grist’s review of 20 arrest warrants shows that none of those arrested and slapped with terrorism charges are accused of seriously injuring anyone. Nine are alleged to have committed no specific illegal actions beyond misdemeanor trespassing. Instead, their mere association with a group committed to defending the forest appears to be the foundation for declaring them terrorists.
Georgia’s terror law passed in response to high-profile mass shootings including the 2015 massacre of nine Black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina, by white supremacist Dylann Roof. The 2017 law expanded the definition of “domestic terrorism” from its original designation as an act intended to kill or injure at least 10 people to one encompassing a range of property crimes."
Yet another reason why Centrist calls for more domestic terrorism laws aren't going to do anything but give the State more tools to smash social movements from below.
