Something beautiful for the first day of August.

I see this in my own direct ancestry. My ggrandmothers side of my Native family is full blood, but my ggrandfather's side is mixed. No European women, just men who all fully participated in and integrated into Mvskoke society and its matrilineal clans.

When #African men and women married Natives, they both wanted to be part of Native society and its clans, which as Indigenous people they were familiar and comfortable with.

Previously throughout colonization when European men married Native women, those men wanted to be part of Native society & its clans.
When European women married Native men, those women did not want to be part of Native society, if anything they hid it.
Don't even pretend you understand something about North American Native/Indigenous people, OR history and issues with Europeans and colonization if you haven't seen this whole video.

Clans of the Cherokee
This is a great video that demonstrates how different Native matrilineal societies can be.
There are differences among Native Nations but Tsalagi (Cherokee) very similar to Mvskoke. Mvskoke/Tsalagi are both of so called 5 Civilized Tribes. Ancestral & Removal lands are next to each other.
Every reconnecting Native & non-Native should view this.

I occasionally play with the #TsaLaGi aka #CherokeeLanguage, mostly to be able to reconnect with my ancestors and their culture a little bit more.
So in that spirit, I've been wondering what would be the right #Cherokee word for "Mastodon"
A few options:
#ᎧᎹᎹ (pronounced #womama) - Elephant
#ᎹᏦᏙᏁ (pronounced #MaTsoDoNa)
Curious if any folks who are actually fluent in Cherokee can weigh in, because I am NOT fluent.
Also curious if non-latin alphabet hashtags will work?
