My #LinkedIn is awash with people commenting about their dilemma of using #elonmusk's #hellsite, as if, AS IF they'd only just woken up to his #fascist agenda? I mean, what about the 2 MILLION OF US who migrated here in 2022 very much because WE KNEW? Anyone remembers the hashtag #twitterrefugees?
I suspect it is the threat of legal action with the #OnlineSafetyAct that finally got them to move their heads out of their arses. If only they wouldn't sing the praises of #Threads & #Bluesky...🤔

You know, while I do appreciate Mastodon apps like Mona (formerly known as Spring for Twitter), Ice Cubes, Ivory (formerly known as Tweetbot), Phanpy, trunks, OpenVibe and etc, that have implemented fake quote post support, I dislike that I don't get notified when someone quotes a post of mine, using one of these apps.

When I quote people using my Friendica account, people (even Mastodon users!) do get a notification about this. Same happens when someone from Friendica quotes me: I get notified.

Wish we could have something similar like this, here, on Mastodon.

Even Bluesky and Threads have implemented that.

I miss quote feature from Twitter.

So I guess we gonna need to wait for Mastodon 4.4 to come out, since it has by idea, this feature well implemented.

@_elena I was never into microblogging, but I had a rather deep (so to say) attachment to Facebook. That's why Mastodon never caught up to me. I also happened to migrate to fedi right before the first wave of #twitterrefugees, so I inevitably got some content right from the get-go, more than I expected. I do not really find the name Friendica bad, albeit a little funny, but the promotion really is.

Nevertheless, I highly recommend Friendica to anyone looking for a home/swiss-army knife of the Fediverse. Highly useful with everything one would wish from Mastodon:

  • Crazy formatting options (here's an overline);
  • Posts with titles;
  • Inline images/media inside posts, allowing for richer creativity (cannot demonstrate in a way visible on Mastodon;
  • Groups, Pages for various topics (news, organizations etc.);
  • A crazy amount of sorting options;
  • Integrated Calendar, allowing you to create or join events from all over fedi;
  • Threaded discussions (on multiple levels) that allow you to easily follow all the replies;
  • Like/Dislike buttons ('cuz you cannot like anything and everything, right? Right, Zuck?)
  • Posts and comments as long as your heart desires;
  • And many more.

The amount of options might seem overwhelming, but I'm sure one could find their use one way or another.

I haven't been in Twitter for awhile and I'm pushing a big fundraiser so figured it's a waste of resources to not push there, while I still have access to it.

But in this time I was away, owner of the platform has gone from "I pretend to support Ukraine" to full "I'm gonna spread russian propaganda openly and try to get you all killed by withdrawing support"

For the love of God, please try to get your friends to switch to whatever, even Threads will be better at this point.

Over in the strange birdie site, Elon Musk tells the world he about to remove the ability to block users who resort to bullying and harassment. Whether this for supposed 'free speech' or because he wants advertisers to have full access to everyone, who knows. One thing for certain, we'll see another massive surge of new users over here on Mastodon.

...struggling to accommodate a few 100k #TwitterRefugees. My feeling is that there is a group effort to accommodate and welcome everyone. 😀

Let's even say these newcomers all become good #Fedizens in no time, embracing cultural aspects like #AltText right away.

This still leaves the 13m #Fedizens against (potentially) 1.400 mn #Metas.
(I know, not everyone will want to sign up with #Threads...)

Which leads us back to my chart of the ant-eater...

I tried hard to get a guy to give Mastodon a chance. He reluctantly signed up and complained nonstop. He just tooted that he just can’t make this work (no rationale) and he’s going to Blue Sky after having access to that for a whole two days. Can’t save them all!

ALSO: I won’t miss the complaining. 🙃

Advice for #newbies #TwitterRefugees #TwitterMigration #NewHere people.

Welcome to Mastodon. It's like a breath of fresh air.

The key here is to be patient. Things don't happen instantly because they are run by individual humans, who are unpaid volunteers. Not run by a large corporation of paid workers.

Build relationships, treat people as you want them to treat you, be consistent visiting, and you'll gradually fill your timeline with interesting, friendly and funny friends.

Mastodon is getting a new wave of #TwitterRefugees due to yet another set of bad decisions by bird site CEO Leon Skum. To the new users, welcome! Once upon a time I too was a refugee from that site, but it has been so many refugee waves ago that I feel like an old hand, or at least an older hand now. It takes some getting used to here, but it's worth the effort.

Welcome #TwitterRefugees of the latest #TwitterMigration.

We hope you will join us for #HashTagGames!

We start a new game each evening at 9pm EST. Play when you can. Some games play for days but we do start a new game each night.

We ask our players to include #HashTagGames so non-players, if they really exist, can mute that tag and not get the game noise in their timelines from the new nightly game hashtags.

Welcome.

Follow us and the hashtag to stay in the loop.
