Trump officials decimate climate protections and consider axeing key greenhouse gas finding
EPA takes aim at almost every major pollution rule in what environmentalists call act of ‘malice toward the planet’
...
“The Trump administration’s ignorance is trumped only by its malice toward the planet,” said Jason Rylander, legal director at the Center for Biological Diversity’s Climate Law Institute.

“Come hell or high water, raging fires and deadly heatwaves, Trump and his cronies are bent on putting polluter profits ahead of people’s lives. This move won’t stand up in court. We’re going to fight it every step of the way.”

Climate litigation - Environmental groups sound new alarm as fossil fuel lobby pushes for immunity theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m

Nearly 200 groups urge Congress to reject fossil fuel industry immunity efforts, fearing long-term damage to climate lawsuits

“Lawmakers must decisively reject any attempt by the fossil fuel industry to evade accountability and ensure both justice today and the right of future generations to hold polluters responsible for decades of deception,” said the missive, which is addressed to the House minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries, and Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer.

Fossil fuel companies have vied for such a get-out-of-jail-free card for years.

Five years ago today, police burst into Breonna Taylor's home and shot her dead. @19thnews spoke to her mother, Tamika Palmer, about her ongoing quest for truth and justice, and how she is spending today. “I just want to honor her myself,” Palmer said. “I don’t want to argue with the world, I don’t want to share her with the world, I don’t want to have to prove that she deserves justice.”

Update. It's not enough for #Trump to …

* nominate #climate denialists to run key agencies like the #EPA and #NOAA
* remove climate-related words from govt web sites
* take down whole climate science sites and datasets
* defund climate research and researchers
* layoff scientists and civil servants with climate expertise
* repeal climate regulations
* eliminate 10 regional EPA offices, including the one in DC
* and plan to replace consensus climate findings with ideological cherrypicking as the foundation for policymaking …

… now his #FBI is freezing the assets of nonprofits like Habitat for Humanity, which have received EPA grants, alleging that they might be guilty of “possible criminal violations” including “conspiracy to defraud the United States.”

More than 60 years ago, New York Times C. v. Sullivan established that, to succeed in defamation cases, public figures must prove that a published statement is false and that publishers acted with "actual malice." "Murder the Truth," a new book by New York Times journalist and editor David Enrich, discusses the movement to overturn Sullivan, accelerated by Trump, his allies and people who are influenced by them. Nieman Lab spoke to Enrich about his investigation, the journalists he spoke to, and more. "The push to overturn Roe was obviously one of the most coordinated assaults on established Supreme Court precedent, probably in history," Enrich says. "This is definitely not like that — but it’s not an accident that these people were getting up and being given platforms on places like Fox News to make these arguments over and over again."

Kudos to the American Bar Association (@abaesq) for speaking out against the #Trump admin #intimidation of #judges.

"We cannot have a judicial system where the government seeks to remove judges simply because they do not rule as the government desires. Considering the increasing physical threats to judges, these are clearly efforts to intimidate judges and our courts. The courts are a co-equal branch of our government, and they must be treated that way. We call upon the government and our elected officials to cease making these statements. Government officials know they can appeal decisions they do not like. That is the appropriate way to disagree with a decision of a court."

'A group of Apple Watch buyers have filed a lawsuit in Silicon Valley accusing the tech giant of exaggerating how environmentally friendly production of the smart wristwear is.

A civil suit filed Wednesday argues that two nature-based projects Apple cites to back claims of carbon neutrality are areas where trees would be growing regardless of whether the tech company was involved.

"Apple's carbon neutrality claims are false and misleading because both projects fail to provide genuine, additional carbon reductions," the suit contends'. msn.com/en-gb/money/technology

A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from terminating grants and contracts related to DEI, agreeing with the plaintiffs (including the city of Baltimore and higher education groups) that the termination provision "invites arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement over billions of dollars in government funding," U.S. District Judge Adam Abelson ruled. “The possibilities are almost endless, and many are pernicious ... If an elementary school receives Department of Education funding for technology access, and a teacher uses a computer to teach the history of Jim Crow laws, does that risk the grant being deemed 'equity-related' and the school being stripped of funding?" Here's more from NBC.
