Tapas Easwar<p>I think my biggest fear is that this places Canada where the US was in 2020, and we're gearing up for our own return of P̶a̶l̶p̶a̶t̶i̶n̶e̶ Poilievre (or someone worse and more dangerous). </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/canpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>canpoli</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/cdnpoli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cdnpoli</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/elxn45" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>elxn45</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/canadavotes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>canadavotes</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/elbowsup" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>elbowsup</span></a></p>

Jagmeet Singh has just announced that he will be stepping down as party leader. He lost his seat.
Poilievere is trailing in his riding currently. Elizabeth May has won her seat. This election night has been certainly interesting.

Remember, regardless of who we voted for, we are still Canadians. Never lose sight of that!
And with that, I am going to stop watching the news and hit the sack. Good night y'all.

Canada, congratulations!

Canada has voted to give the Liberals a fourth consecutive term. I think it's an endorsement of Mark Carney's leadership. It also shows strong voter disapproval for Pierre Poilievre’s alarmingly extremist views. I hope Pierre Poilievre loses his riding, Carleton, where tally results are starting to arrive: CON 38.6%, LIB 58.6%.

🇨🇦 Canada says "No" to Trumpism!
🇦🇺 Australia, it's our turn next!

Okay, grudgingly tuning in to the election details.

I weighed the comparative angst of waking up to terrible results versus seeing terrible results manifest over the evening, and I think the latter might be easier to take.

Of course, maybe the polls will have been right and there will be good news, but we've been burnt so many times over the past couple of years.

Yet another election where the media isn't doing their job.

Instead of helping Canadians understand the Westminster Parliamentary system that Canada uses, they report as if it were a US Presidential election.

Reporting as the sun crosses from east to west, generating Western alienation.

Elections Canada should be able to fine the media for this harm to Canada’s Democratic Institutions.
