Meanwhile, another paper: "A systematic search for trace molecules in #exoplanet K2-18 b".
The paper claims: "We find three molecules, including #DMS, which appear promising across the datasets considered.
The two molecules besides DMS are diethyl sulfide and methyl acrylonitrile, which are more complex than DMS, biogenic on Earth, and have no significant sources known beyond Earth."
And I am so sorry, but I don't believe any of this because Madhusudhan is a co-author of the paper.

"La dégradation du DMSP par les organismes marins va en effet produire deux nouveaux composés soufrés : le méthanethiol et le sulfure de diméthylesulfure de diméthyle (#DMS). C’est ce dernier qui donne « l’odeur de la mer ». Les embruns marins permettent d'ailleurs à ce composé de se volatiliser sous forme de gaz dans l'atmosphère, où il va être oxydé pour former d'autres molécules, comme le dioxyde de soufre et l'acide sulfurique."

So you might know by now that DMs (here called Private Mentions) work differently on Mastodon (maybe other fediverse platforms?) in that anyone you @ mention will receive the message, unlike on Twitter, where tagging someone does not add them to the conversation.
Who here learned this the hard way? Share your stories!
Is the "Admins can read your DMs" thing seriously trending again? How many times is this gonna come up? The same way that Telegram, Twitter, FurAffinity, etc can all read your DMs, Fediverse admins can read your DMs if they go manually traverse the database for some insane reason. That warning when you start a DM isn't just there for show. I personally don't want to have a heavily limited and compromised social network that forces you to pass around encryption keys just to use it, so please just use a secure service like Signal or Matrix if you want to pass along sensitive messages.

The atty for #Twitter told Judge Howell that the company had found both “deleted” & “nondeleted” #DMs associated w/Trump’s account.…
The court papers unsealed on Tues revealed that #JackSmith’s prosecutors sought “all content, records & other information” related to Trump’s Twitter acct from Oct 2020 to Jan 2021, including all tweets “created, drafted, favorited/liked or retweeted” by the acct & all #DirectMessages sent from, received by or stored in draft form by the acct.
#Criminal #Conspiracy
The papers included #transcripts of #hearings in DC Fed Dist Court in Feb during which Judge Howell asserted that Smith’s office had sought #Trump’s #DMs from #Twitter as part of a #SearchWarrant it executed on the acct in Jan.
In one of the transcripts, a lawyer for #Twitter, answering questions from Judge Howell, confirmed that the co had turned over to the #SpecialCounsel’s office “all direct messages, the DMs” from #Trump’s Twitter acct, incl’g those sent, received & “stored in draft form.”
While it remained unclear what sorts of info the #DMs contained & who exactly may have written them, it was a revelation that there were private msgs associated w/the #Twitter acct of #Trump, who has famously been cautious about using written forms of communications in his dealings w/aides & allies.
The court papers disclosing prosecutors in #SpecialCounsel #JackSmith’s office obtained #DMs from #Trump’s Twitter acct emerged from a fight w/ #Twitter over the warrant’s legality.
The federal prosecutors who charged #Trump this month w/conspiring to overturn the 2020 election got access this winter to a trove of so-called #DirectMessages that Trump sent others privately through his #Twitter account, acc/to court papers unsealed on Tues.

You know, while it is on my mind. #ElonMusk and what he has left for a #Twitter team. Is doing one #shitty job at trying to sell #TwitterBlue to people.
1) With the cutting of #Dms and making it #verified only for some users.
2) The #limitations for #Tweeetdeck and how #RateLimits are fucking that over hard. Plus the fact they #removed it from #Legacy instantly after #announcing that Tweetdeck was going to blue exclusively. That is terrible #business and pushes people away. Like me.
So now that the askbox being amiss is solved does anyone know a website option to use that works as dms/chats? Would be handy to have so I dont need to publicly share my Discord or ask people to DM me on Tumblr

@DataDrivenMD Encryption to block peers from seeing one's DMs or protect common commercial transactions can be implemented and made secure enough,
...but no matter how pompously an encryptist might boast, one can ask if an impenetrable encryption considering secret services and such agents is a whole different issue.
