The Labour maladministration is determined to screw recognisably great British 'industries' at the altar of something that they have learnt about on Tik Tok and do not understand. Giving away the family silver. While I am not a fan of the House of Lords (but am in a revising body) it is good that the HoL are making a fuss about this.

Protestors from #Assemble have today stopped proceedings in the #HouseOfLords. They are an organisation that:

‘campaigns for the House of Lords to be abolished and replaced by a citizens’ assembly.

Citizens’ assemblies are selected by sortition, which means members of the public are picked at random via a lottery.

Supporters of this mechanism argue it means a more representative sample of the population are able to come together and debate important issues.’

Starmer might have thought while in opposition it was a good idea to reform/abolsh the House of Lords (although I am not convinced) , but now in government he realises how useful it is - as a gift to retired MPs and donors who will be in his debt.
