âpihtawikosisân is back!!! With a fantastic project:

"I want to demonstrate that we don’t need a million dollar budget and a huge production team – and we certainly can’t wait for these things. I also strongly believe in creating a resource that is free to access. If you are an Indigenous person and Cree is one of your traditional languages, it is your birthright. The more opportunities that exist for you to reclaim that birthright, the better.”

I love looking through native-land.ca. I learn something new every time I go, usually by just clicking on one of the random articles on the side. It's pretty clear that it's a small team behind it, and I wish they had more resources to be able to put more indigenous languages on the map (literally!).

If you have some time on your hands and a passion for language, I'd highly suggest checking out their Volunteer page: native-land.ca/how-to-contribu It's a lovely way to contribute to/learn about global Indigenous sovereignty and lift up marginalized voices. Each language is a worldview; we can learn so much if only we look for it!

Also this is Ariel; I'd post this on my profile but wandering.shop has a very small character allowance and I am way too long-winded for it, I have found :P

Dear _ ,

🌎✨ I envision the future in #Canada, where ≈60 #IndigenousLanguages (& English & French) will be current in society. To enable this future I will: 📚 continue to support #Indigenous language learning & revitalization programs; 🗣️ learn & practice the local Niitsitapi (i.e., Blackfoot) language; 🎓 advocate for language inclusion in education; 📜 support policies that recognize Indigenous languages; 💬 & amplify Indigenous voices & stories. Languages are identities. 🔥 #LanguageRevitalization

Release the doves! A new PhD in Linguistics, Dr. Mosiah Bluecloud, who successfully defended his dissertation this afternoon.

A speaker of #Kickapoo and Sauk, Dr. Blueloud's work focuses on teaching and learning methods that produce new adult speakers of revitalizing Indigenous languages. His committee included Dr. Ofelia Zepeda, Dr. Heidi Harley, and Dr. Sheilah Nicholas.

Huzzah! Huzzah!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the best way to allocate time and effort in #LanguageRevitalization projects, and how best to organize those projects. Small organizational or interpersonal issues can have outsized impacts, especially on projects with limited personnel and ambitious goals.

If you know of any literature or personal advice that you’ve found useful in your language revitalization projects, let me know. I’d love recommendations.

These White cosplayers stole an Indigenous language, copywrite it, & are now selling it back to the Indigenous community at exorbitant rates.

They recorded his grandmother speaking & now they are taking legal action to prevent him from accessing the language & *speaking his own language.* He is a language instructor.
