: The red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio) is a bird species in the shrike family (Laniidae) and the most common shrike species in Central Europe. It is best known for its behavior of catching prey on thorns. Its diet consists mainly of large insects, but also small mammals and birds. At 16–18 cm long, the red-backed shrike is the smallest Central European shrike species. It shows very pronounced sexual dimorphism - males and females differ significantly in their coloration. The average wing length is 93 (91–95) mm, with males ranging between 88 and 100 mm and females ranging between 82 and 98 mm. The tail length is between 71 and 90 mm for males and between 68 and 85 mm for females. The average weight of the males is about 28 grams. In the females it can increase to 32.8 grams during the breeding season and is about 28.5 grams outside of the breeding season. The breeding area of ​​the red-backed shrike is limited to the western Palearctic.

I was a bit 'too well' camouflaged. I wanted to take off my camouflage when the Red-backed Shrike flew away. But the red-backed shrike stayed the whole time. Eventually my arm became too sore from holding the telephoto zoom and I had to undress.
The Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio) grows up to 17 cm long and has a wingspan of up to 27 cm. Its diet includes caterpillars, lizards and insects. It also sometimes impales its food on the thorns of bushes to build up a stockpile. Red-backed shrikes are long-distance migrants.


Neuntöter im Sonnenuntergang
Ich war etwas „zu gut“ getarnt. Ich wollte meine Tarnung wenn der Neuntöter wegfliegt verlassen, aber der Neuntöter ist die ganze geblieben. Mein Arm tat dann aber irgendwann vom halten des Telezoom zu doll weh und ich musste mich so enttarnen.
Der Neuntöter (Lanius collurio) wird bis zu 17 cm groß und bekommt eine Spannweite von bis zu 27 cm. Er ernährt sich u.a. von Raupen, Eidechsen und Insekten. Seine Nahrung spießt er auch manchmal auf Dornen von Büschen auf, um sich einen Vorrat anzulegen. Neuntöter gehören zu den Langstreckenzieher.
