But I wish there was an easier way to add someone to one of my pf tables when they start banging on the door, trying ssh accounts that don't exist or hitting the server repeatedly. I'm using refuseconnection:1800s, but there are a few people who just keep coming back for more, every 30 minutes. For now, I think I'll probably end up with an awk script to add their ip addresses to my "gropers" table.

Some #wayland news on #OpenBSD from #l2k25:
- pointer acceleration works now in libinput (thanks volker@)
- volker@ also has prepared a wlroots patch to enable outputs hotplugs (when you add an external monitor) that should land in the short future.
- I've done some work on wscons / wsmux to have wayland (and also eventually Xorg) behave better with multiple keyboards without needing ugly hacks. That also manages hot-plugin of input devices (and disconnect/reconnect during suspend/resume). That code will take longer to be put in shape to be reviewed and hopefully committed.
- A number of the wayland ports have been updated, and an update of pixman to 0.46.4 (which is needed to upgrade to #wlroots 0.19) is also almost ready. Once it's in wlroots, sway and labwc can be updated.

Suite du fil

#OpenBSD has a new driver for AMD machines, amdpmc(4), similar to intelpmc(4), for power management control needed to enter even lower power idle states during suspend-to-idle (S0i), which #OpenBSD has began supporting since 7.6.

kettenis@ modified src/sys/*: Add [amdpmc(4)], the equivalent of intelpmc(4) for machines with AMD CPUs.

Resolved

To resolve this I used a function in my .kshrc as follows:

man() {
sh -c "man '$@' | col -bx | bat -l man -p"
}
Now I have colored man pages.

Very strange. This command line works on #FreeBSD but not on #OpenBSD using KSH on both systems.

export MANPAGER="sh -c 'col -bx | bat -l man -p'"

On FreeBSD it gives me the coloured man pages but under OpenBSD it complains with bx: no closing quote

It seems I'm not the only person to notice either.

I feel that I should add: there are projects that make selfhosting more accessible to the somewhat less technical inclined folks - like Yunohost, CasaOS/ZimaOS and more.

They target both an easier setup and easier maintenance.

This aren't recommendations - I have zero experience with Yunohost and only tried CasaOS/ZimaOS for a couple of hours max - before nuking the Zimaboard and slapping #OpenBSD on it :flan_XD:

New instance, new #introduction

I migrated from cybervillains.com/@_xhr_ Great instance but recently the downtimes have been a bit overwhelming. Hence you haven't heard in a while.

I am in the #Unix world since nearly 30 years, used all kinds of Linux, was a #DragonFly BSD committer in the 2010 (you might have seen dma, which is now part of #FreeBSD man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?qu). My daily driver is #OpenBSD.

In my day job I worked in #InfoSec for over a decade, mostly in a technical sense. These days more in the non-technical world, wrangling the ISO 27k1.

I've been on Mastodon since 2016 and migrated instances twice.
