@cosmos4u also they all propably use similar #tracking #radar and models re: upper atmosphere and the rotation and speed of it.

  • Needless to say all of them expect it to crash down as a glowing hot 500kg chonk of metal hitting the surface.

Pretty shure the window will tighten once they have visual contact at the beginning of #reentry and I'm shure any telescope in the flight path that has enough angular speed will try to track it down with it's pathway and send a live video feed with location, direction and elevation to their space agency to help in that endeavour.

NEXRAD radars are #weather detectors, not “weapons.” When you receive a #tornado or severe #thunderstorm warning, it is more likely than not based on a meteorologist’s interpretation of #radar data. Your taxpayer dollars pay for their operation. Leave them alone. #ffs cnn.com/2025/05/05/weather/wea

Ukraine attacks Russian Strela electromechanical plant in #Bryansk Oblast

Attack sparked a fire covering an area of 250 square meters (about 2,690 square feet), damaging critical infrastructure of the plant

The #Strela plant, located in #Suzemka near the #Ukrainian border, produces #radar #equipment, transformers, chokes, and other #electronics for #Russia's #defense, #aerospace, and #electronics industries.

@ai6yr Fantastic idea for use of #radar reflective fabric. #Safety for vulnerable road users is a major issue for automated driving, whether they use radars or just visual spectrum cameras.

I assume you mean reflective wearable cycling gear, not the bike itself. But don’t neglect the bike. There is not much surface area to reflect the signal so bikes are sometimes not very salient. It’s a big problem. I’d also suggest childrens’s clothing and toys as potentially good use cases.

As to testing, yes. I’d aim for a proof-of-concept first. There are several types of automotive radars from various venders. Each might have different detection results. Scanning, phased array, and flash radars for example. Stationary vs. moving radar targets also make a difference. Certain paints are radar reflective to various degrees (another can of worms as it is an attack vector). With flash radars, there is no temporal lag between data points due to scan time because the flash illuminates everything all at once. No blurring of the image. You can easy read signs, etc with flash radar images.

A big problem will be that manufacturers use big data #AI techniques (similar to LLMs) to train the detectors. It would be a big effort to collect enough new data to quantify detection and recognition.

I suggest pitching the idea to companies like 3M who are already making radar reflective tape and paint.
