this article on yesterday's occupation of the #Oxford #RadcliffeCamera has been updated throughout the events, so now has the whole drama. Lovely photos too. https://www.oxfordstudent.com/2025/01/24/breaking-oxford-action-for-palestine-occupies-radcliffe-camera-establishing-the-khalida-jarrar-library/
As I recall from reading Dr Radcliffe's Library, it was never about the books - the title alludes to Radcliffe saying that the human body was his library, ie he didn't care about books. He paid for a library in his name to ensure his posthumous fame. #Oxford I visited the #RadcliffeCamera recently and came away with the impression that there aren't all that many books in there, although it is of course an amazing space to spend time in.
This morning at approximately 9:00 AM, #Oxford Action for Palestine (OA4P), entered the #RadcliffeCamera library beginning their “occupation” of the library. OA4P stated they were establishing the “Khalida Jarrar Library”, named after Palestinian politician and activist Khalida Jarrar, one one of the 90 Palestinian prisoners released earlier this week as part of the ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel.
#oxford - I hear the #RadcliffeCamera is being occupied by pro Palestinian protesters ?
I have just realised that the "list" option in my profile is quite a useful tool - and at the same time a totally wasted opportunity. Why?
Because it does help me in following a certain group of people but I cannot easily share it with you, with literally nobody.
Discussions on this are ongoing but I'd be delighted for #Mastodon #Fediverse to take up that simple tool by which curated lists could help newcomers like me
