Keep your eyes peeled for dwarves and your ears open for the sound of drums in the deep. It's not quite Moria, but the abandoned Högbergsfältet iron mine near the Swedish town of Filipstad is still an impressive sight.

Canoeing in Värmland. For people in Europe it's a must. Beavers, bears (never seen one only footprints from one), eagles and animals sniffing around in the night while you try to sleep in your tent (it turn out to be a badger). I love it and if someone wants to try; main town is Arvika and go for routes in Glaskogen nature reserve. We tried a hard trip without children from lake to lake with a lot of canoe transports - it was fantastic. We also tried one on Svartelven (picture) with our son - also very nice but not the WILD nature experience like the lake trip.
