Sky is nearly 8 years old. She's a staffy collie cross dog and she is a dark chocolate brindle. In this photo Sky is enjoying the freedom in our local off-leash walking spot which just so happens to be in a beautiful place next to the river. There are lots of trees and birds - in the large gum tree pictured were a family of kingfisher last season - I've not seen evidence of them this spring here but I live in hope as they are one of my favourite birds. I recognised the call of a shining cuckoo here recently, not sure if these birds get on...
There is a little narrow walking bridge crossing the storm water drain which Sky has crossed and I am about to cross.
The actual sky is a gorgeous clear blue.

It was nice to see the river lower and cleaner than it's been in a while, the stump acts as a sort of water level Metre stick to me.
Today a large black shag was perched here, hopefully it found breakfast easily.

The Manawatū River passing willow trees with fresh green spring leaves, behind them are some straggly macrocarpa trees and grey clouds in the sky.
In the river is the tip of a long tree and stump poking out of the water and on the stump is a large black shag. These birds are about 40-50 cm tall, with long wings. They are excellent fishers and I reckon this one picked a great spot for fishing this morning.

This morning's walk included seeing three kōtare and a korimako, as well as countless tūī, and various other song birds. I stood looking up to find which bird was exercising its vocal range and marvelled at all the trills and sounds coming from one small camouflaged bird.

What a beautiful morning, these colours were eye-poppingly beautiful. Sky (dog in the picture) did some rolling and zoomies through the trees and shared her clear delight with me and any passersby

Convolvulus - sometimes also called Morning Glory?
This is a close up photo of about 5 open flowers. They are a brilliant purple up close, from further away They appear more blue or indigo in colour.
They are a noxious weed which strangle any trees or vegetation in their path.
It's a shame because their flowers really are very beautiful 😍.

Kāpiti Island is silhouetted against a stunning sunset where the background sky is a light blue heading towards a light yellow at the horizon and the scattered clouds are pink, red and orange. The colours are reflected on the sea and the wet sand.

Yesterday's Challenge

We made 55 hot cross buns yesterday, 6 batches with about 10 students per batch. Students ranging in age from 9-11yo. We started at 9.05am and ate at 2.30pm! The key word was patience. I explained that yeast can be very temperamental!! Success 🙌 and it is something I look forward to doing again.

A beautiful display of bright purple salvia flowers - these are tall and leafy at the bottom, pointy top with lots of tiny petals.
There are orangey yellow flowers surrounding them.

In my view, absolutely beautiful. Right in the centre of our city 🤩

Can you see the path she created?
People often assume she's been for a swim in the river

The grass is long and lush and full of clover leaves and morning dew.
Sky is a 7 year old staffy collie cross dog and she has slid down the stop bank, it's about 4-5 metres top to bottom and her path is about 40 cm wide.

I enjoy watching her... I haven't yet felt tempted to try it... would you think I should, or you would?? 🤔

Rain is forecast, it will help the garden and the mugginess.

The light is reflected on the river and pushing its way through the layers of cloud. The river is lower than it has been in a long time. It is a very beautiful place, this morning I am a little later than usual and I saw less people and more birds. Their relaxed cheeping adds to what is a special time.

Bob is happy sleeping on my tummy!
I have been happy sleeping on the cushions off the couch at my friend's house. Bob is a grey and white cat with a cute little diamond on his nose.

Sky is not so keen on kittens or cats but I think she gets them muddled with the wild rabbits she has sprinting races with??

A deep red rose on a very overgrown rose bush in the driveway - anypruningtipsandtimings wouldbegreatinthecomments... hint hint... , Sky (our dog - staffy collie cross) is peeking out past the edge of the deck to see what is holding me up this time. Come on mum, walkies time!
