Stumbled across this cross, known as a Preaching Cross, just east of Bodmin Jail. This tall, wheel-headed cross could date back to the Celtic period, or perhaps the medieval era. The head is marked with an incised Greek Cross: a simple but striking design. A piece of history standing quietly by, witnessing stories from centuries past.
From the archives a scene inspired by my visit to the Aran Islands years ago.

Gravestone for Chief Constable Alexander McCall who died in 1888 and is buried in the Glasgow Necropolis.
The Celtic cross style stone is an early work by Charles Rennie MacKintosh, whose father was the Chief Clerk in the City of Glasgow Police Force while McColl was in charge. The stone itself was sculpted by Peter Smith who worked for John Mossman.

Inspired by memories of an old cemetery I visited on #Inishmore - and it still doesn't seem possible that's been over ten years ago. But obviously it remains prominent in my memories.

I always welcome sharing whether by boosting or otherwise. This is literally how I pay the bills.
It may be a bit spooky (and possibly weird) to stand in a pitch dark and freezing graveyard but sometines it's worth it.
