The mirrored image of a fountain in a partially frozen pond. The sun created some remarkable colors that day.

Ten years ago, I often made these kinds of combinations, but hanging them was tricky. They have to be hung exactly evenly, otherwise the effect is lost. This was especially difficult in exhibitions. On a wire rail, things easily hang unevenly. So I stopped doing that.

A mural on a wall with a door closed by a roller shutter. At the bottom of the photo, the paving stones, so common in The Hague, are diagonally arranged. The top of the painting depicts a kind of oriental cityscape, in white and gray, below which are arches with yellow and gray pillars. A bright blue appears through the arches. In the rightmost arch, a man is painted in black and white. I don't know who it is. The door is left of center; a bicycle with a blue front tire is leaning against it.

A richly detailed color photo captures a decaying wooden boathouse along a forested shoreline in the Pacific Northwest. The scene is viewed from the water, with the greenish surface reflecting the dense treeline. The boathouse, now barely standing, is dramatically tilted to one side, its frame twisted and sagging with age. Much of the roof has collapsed, exposing the dark interior and broken structural elements. Surrounding it is a rocky, uneven shoreline with washed-up logs, driftwood, and tree stumps. Towering behind the ruin is a lush coastal forest dominated by evergreen trees interspersed with vibrant Pacific madrone trees (Arbutus menziesii), whose smooth, orange-red bark stands out sharply against the dark green foliage. The image evokes a strong sense of time, nature’s quiet reclamation, and the fading remnants of human presence.
