@miki_lou this is also a great example of how extremism and instability can take hold under #firstpastthepost. An opportunistic leader of a major party nibbling at the legitimacy of vital institutions for short term electoral gains. Every little attack feels like it’s worth the risk but the damage is cumulative.
And thanks to #FirstPastThePost, Doug Ford has 100% of the power with just 20% of the vote. Everyone else gets to shut up and sit on their hands for the next four years.

Here's a map I made after the 2021 election showing the over/under representation of seats vs votes per province.
It's #FirstPastThePost voting. The number of elected seats is only loosely coupled to the number of votes received. And the correlation is almost chaotic, in the mathematical sense. A small change in votes can make the difference in gaining or losing a seat. Repeat that 343 times across Canada, and any outcome is possible.
And for that reason I never believe polls.
@Thebratdragon @vthuppil I'm voting Greens in May but #Labour in the #GeneralElection. This isn't because I want to, but because, if I vote Green, our #firstpastthepost system means I am likely handing the Tories a vote. And I hate the Tories, much much (much) more than I dislike Labour. In fact, my preference would actually be for a #coalition, as I don't think any one party should be in charge. So my first vote would actually be for #proportionalrepresentation!

@georgetakei it’s the design of the #FirstPastThePost system. What is needed is electoral reform with either multiple rounds until there are just 2 remaining, or a preference voting system so that third candidate votes are allocated to a preferred alternative
