The Green Party has expressed support for asylum seekers who risk being targeted by protests planned for this weekend outside hotels that house them. Green Party spokesperson on policing and domestic safety, Amanda Onwuemene, said:
The unrest we are seeing outside hotels housing asylum seekers and in our communities is unacceptable. The protests are the result of the deliberate spread of myths and lies about asylum seekers and refugees and are being stoked by the far right.
The Green party stands in solidarity with all those who are using their right to seek asylum and who must be feeling unsafe and frightened at this time.
We must remember our basic humanity. Those coming to this country to flee violence include mothers with their children, as well as people of all ages who have endured unimaginable trauma. We have a duty to offer compassion and sanctuary, not fear and intimidation.
Our political leaders also have a duty to show moral backbone and stand firm against the divisive demands of the far right on migration which will only foster racism and Islamophobia in our communities.
On Friday, protests are being planned outside at least 10 hotels in England.
The #GreenParty 2025 online annual national meeting's keynote speaker was #MikoPeled, founder & president of #Palestine House of Freedom in #Washington, #DC, a non-profit aimed at dismantling the #Israeli #Occupation.
Reacting to news that the Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has given the green light for councils to sell off allotments to raise funds, Green peer and keen allotment holder, Jenny Jones, said:
It seems there are no green spaces that are safe under this Labour government.
Allotments are valuable spaces to promote physical and mental health, help with local food security, encourage a gift culture amongst allotment holders and their neighbours, and offer a sanctuary for nature. Labour should know that they are especially important for people who don’t have the privilege of their own garden, i.e. many of those who vote – or used to vote – Labour.
This policy is another sign that Labour knows the price of everything but the value of nothing. Cash-strapped councils need to be offered proper funding by central government, not pushed into selling off these vital community assets.
Responding to a report by the Common Wealth thinktank which says that the sale of millions of council homes to tenants at steep discounts since 1980 has fuelled vast shortages in social housing and turbocharged inequality, Green MP Ellie Chowns said:
This report lays bare the devastation Right to Buy has wrought on communities up and down the country. Successive governments stood by while Right to Buy hollowed out our council housing stock, creating chronic shortages and deepening inequality.
We cannot allow this crisis to continue: it’s time to end Right to Buy, urgently reinvest in secure, affordable social housing that is fit for the future, and guarantee stability and opportunity for families across the UK.

Now it's undeniably clear if we want to rejoin the EU, we need to vote for #GreenParty in England, Scotland and Wales.
We'll see an election in May 2026 in Wales so let's vote for either #PlaidCymru or #GreenParty !
My favourite is the two-person team running for EDI Co-ordinator where one of them is pro trans rights and the other is explicitly anti trans rights.
You’re literally running together to co-ordinate EDI policies for the entire party and you can't even co-ordinate between two of you, you muppets!

We joined a Zoom #Greenparty leadership hustings in the evening, a chance to see and hear Adrian and Zac discussing issues put to them by other North West Greens.
It definitely helped me make a decision
