Our UNDP digital team is taking on really meaningful and interesting work in helping countries use technology in ethical, responsible ways. And filling a bunch of #internships. Fully #remote, around the world, and flexible around individuals' schedules.
While there's a stipend, it's low. Our leadership is working hard to break a long history of unpaid internships in the #UN, but there is still a distance to go for fair pay.

A 2018 law restricting the use of unpaid internships should have led to their demise.... but:
recent research by the Sutton Trust indicates they are still widespread & as such continue to be a major impediment to career choice/advance for the children of parents/families not rich enough to subsidise an 'employer' by covering the worker's living costs for an extended period....
But hey, Rachel Reeves likely sees such a law/limitation as a brake on growth!

A year ago I posted this asking for help to find my community college daughter an internship and I got the best responses from so many people here! Well I wanted to say thanks to #Mastodon and the people here again, let you know what happened and give back by sharing some tips. My daughter ended up getting many offers - she did two internships at Stanford and ended up turning some down! So here are the tips: - Do the research on the labs and write directly to them, sharing your story - Make sure your story is personal- my daughter talked authentically about why she wanted to join their lab specifically and what inspired her - Don’t give up, keep following every lead and if they don’t take you first time, they’ll be impressed if you keep trying! My daughter got in on her second attempt in one case. #STEM #internships
