This semester I advised a very good student working in an awesome research at @HumboldtUni involving #NetNeutrality and satellite networks.
The internet satellite market is following a route of concentration under the dominance of Starlink.
Therefore, several questions regarding basic aspects of net neutrality are still under a big question mark:
- Do end--users enjoy freedom of terminal equipment used to connect to the network?
- Can satellite ISPs prohibit the usage of third-party antenna and terminal equipment for internet connection?
- Would be possible to have satellite communication protocols based on open standards?
- Would satellite ISPs be compliant with the Open Internet Regulation?
These are interesting questions!
