Nevada jury hands $5.2 billion verdict against Vegas company in #BottledWater liver damage lawsuit

Updated 3:25 PM EDT, October 24, 2024

"Juries have previously delivered separate verdicts against the company, awarding plaintiffs almost $3.1 billion in June,$130 million in February and $228 million in October 2023. Juries have been told that tests found #RealWater contained #hydrazine, a chemical used in #RocketFuel that may have been introduced during treatment before bottling."

AP News · Nevada jury hands $5.2 billion verdict against Vegas company in bottled water liver damage lawsuitA jury in Nevada has delivered a $5.2 billion award in the latest large-sum civil lawsuit against a former Las Vegas-based bottled water company found responsible for causing liver damage in customers in 2021. The verdict came Wednesday in the negligence and product liability trial of AffinityLifestyles.com and its Real Water brand. Attorney Will Kemp, representing several plaintiffs in this and other cases, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the company has filed for bankruptcy. The company was headed by Brent Jones, a Republican Nevada state Assembly member from 2016 to 2018. Jones and attorneys for the company didn't respond to emails seeking comment. Other juries have delivered verdicts totaling almost $3.4 billion in three previous trials against the company.

Glowing cloud in the sky tonight, approx 9:24PM mountain daylight time.

This is looking east from Alamogordo.

It appears to be some sort of fuel dump from a rocket launch or staging operation...but this is an unusual azimuth to see it. (I can see west coast space launches, but that's low in the west.)

I took a series of exposures, and the cloud was drifting slowly to the northeast, slowly expanding, and slowly fading.

Astrometry of the star field is here:
nova.astrometry.net/user_image

At the time of the photo, the cloud was at an elevation of 32 degrees, and azimuth 124 degrees.

2nd and 3rd images are additional analysis of this event.

NASA Is Locating Ice On Mars With This New Map

“The map could help the agency decide where the first astronauts to the Red Planet should land. The more available water, the less missions will need to bring.
Buried ice will be a vital resource for the first people to set foot on Mars, serving as drinking water and a key ingredient for rocket fuel. But it would also be a major scientific target: Astronauts or robots could one day drill ice cores much as scientists do on Earth, uncovering the climate history of Mars and exploring potential habitats (past or present) for microbial life.…”
