How are Italian institutions putting open research information into practice?
At the University of Milan, 23 organizations came together to explore how collaboration with open infrastructures like @OpenAlex @opencitations and @OpenAIRE can drive systemic change.
It’s all part of the #BarcelonaDeclaration, and it’s already happening

For the publication metadata nerds: I tried to create clarity (ahum) by visualising the generation of various metadata and their flow through the scholarly publishing system. The links goes to the online version that is fully animated, as well as additional versions. Wonder if you think this is useful.

The yearly report of the @tibhannover has been published, and I'm very happy that the #BarcelonaDeclaration on #OpenResearchInformation (ORI) has such a prominent place in it: tib-report.eu/en/2024#mehropen

A bit below you can find a section on 15 years of @datacite , which was co-funded by TIB, and is a key actor in ORI, too: tib-report.eu/en/2024#jahredat

I'm looking forward to 2025, which will bring a lot more activities in this field.

We are seeing increased commodification of abstracts - perhaps not surprising given their importance in GenAI.

In 2022, SpringerNature had abstracts from
'their' non-open access articles removed from @OpenAlex

Now Elsevier appears to have done the same.

Needless to say, neither provide abstracts for these articles to @crossref either: i4oa.org/#:~:text=The%20follow.

Is this how open we want research abstracts to be?

FIZ Karlsruhe has signed the #barcelonadeclaration on Open Research Information!

By doing so, we’re taking a strong stand for transparency and open access to scientific information. With services like #zbMATHOpen we’re already offering free access to research data and publications.

We’re excited to be part of this movement and to actively shape the future of #OpenScience!
