Hey there Fedi, I have a question for you again!
My new employer is using #Wazo for VoIP at work: wazo.io

Does anyone know how good/bad this company is in term of surveillance?

Should I try to avoid it as much as possible to limit potential recordings of my voice and face or are they supposed to be well behaved?
Their ToS seem relatively harmless but the product does not seem to be open-source so I'm not sure how much one can trust it.

Hey fedizens,
I'm having some issues with #PeerTube using #NewPipe and I'm wondering whether it's just me or if it's a more general issue.

Some PeerTube channels are missing sound on NewPipe, e.g.:

- peertube.mesnumeriques.fr/w/5V
- subscribeto.me/w/ucv4VNJJqZkmx

Could anyone here let me know if they can reproduce the issue on their phone?

It does not affect all of PeerTube, but before I start comparing versions and other technical stuff I want to make sure it not just me 😅

I have a question about how federation works, and I feel like I probably asked before so either I didn't get an answer or I got one that didn't "stick."

How does it work? I see a lot of "please boost this post so my instance can federate."

Does that do it? Or does someone from another instance have to FOLLOW that person to get them federated to that other instance?

Or is it enough for that person on the new instance to start following folks on other instances?

I really thought it had to do with the following part, not the boosting part.

Do I know anyone that hosts a #peertube? I'm thinking of hosting one myself for <insert secret project> and even after reading the documentation I'm still not entirely sure what it does. It hosts videos but how do people find them? Does it work like Mastodon? People have home servers and they subscribe to feeds? Does the server admin decide what feeds the server shows?

Is it even a reasonable thing to host your own if you want people to actually see your videos?

I still didn’t get any answers so far, and there’s a Github bug report that has been unanswered since Nov 5, 2023: github.com/mastodon/mastodon-i

I would *really* like to know how it is possible to keep URL parameters (like Invidious’ &local=true) and anchors when Mastodon generates a preview. For now, I just prevent previews from being created by adding an image, but that is not always possible and can lead to a lot more effort than simply posting something.

Does anyone know why Mastodon strips away almost any URL parameters when generating a preview?

Not only things like, with Invidious, &local=true (which makes sure that YouTube clips are proxied), but also in-page anchors even. Linking a certain part of a one-pager sometimes only makes sense when you jump to the respective anchor.

EDIT: I didn't do anything and it seems to work¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Might as well ask here too.

Currently, my personal account (
@theotime812) is the only admin account, and the first account that was created on this instance. I've tried giving admin rights to a new account (@Admin), by setting it as moderator, then setting isAdmin to true in the database, then restarting the server. However, @Admin doesn't seem to be able to see the user info page (I get "An error has occured" on the page and "You are not an admin" in the console). Any idea of what I did wrong?

#Fediquestion #Firefish

I'm considering running a Friendica instance instead of Firefish (because of compatibility issues with other Fediverse softwares that don't follow the ActivityPub standard as strictly as it wants + being able to follow RSS feeds and Tumblr accounts directly on the main timeline)

There are some things that hold me back, though. I've read that content warnings and alt texts are done only with BBCode, and that you can't mark images as sensitive/NSFW. Is this still true?

(I know it would be easier if I create a Friendica account somewhere but I don't want to come across as rude if I join an instance with the intent of leaving a couple days later ^^')
