Lua is a popular language used in many programs for user scripts. One notable mention in the Unix world is NeoVim, although it's probably even more popular in the game industry. I recently discovered pocketpy, which aims to do the same but with a Python 3 language subset. In the post I just have published in my blog I show how to use pocketpy with C. Hope it's useful!

Writing an #interpreter for #Brainfuck is almost a rite of passage for any programming language implementer, and it’s my turn now. In this post, I write not one but four Brainfuck #interpreters in #Haskell: abhinavsarkar.net/posts/brainf

Please boost for reach. If you have any questions or comments, please reply to this post.

abhinavsarkar.net · Interpreting Brainfuck in HaskellWe write a few Brainfuck interpreters in Haskell.

I was about to abandon #Rust for a project because its match cannot look inside Vec, String, Rc, and Box.

Those who write compilers, optimizers, and #interpreters know how many, how large, how deep, and how unwieldy most patterns are. My code became a sequence of partial patterns and manual derefs, leading to branch duplication.

This crate saved my project: crates.io/crates/match_deref

I avoid #dependencies like the plague, but I'll be using this one in all of my projects

On the docket today: Combing through French ambassadorial requests to have the #Ottoman minister of foreign affairs certify its consuls and #interpreters (c. 1700). Later in the 18th century and/or during the 19th century, French diplomats had many #Armenian interpreters. But, at this point, they were all Frenchmen and Ottoman Jews. Except this guy: Matusagha (Մաթուսաղա), son of the somewhat famous Abro (Ապրօ) Çelebi.

I ported @mattmight’s #CPS conversion code (matt.might.net/articles/cps-co) to #Haskell and after some fighting with the type system, it worked! To make the #interpreters work with the Cont monad, I had to remove recursive lets and hence, functions being able to call themselves recursively, but the rest works fine.

The attached images show the conversion of the Fibonacci function into the CPS version.

Our #GC #interpreters are getting seriously hurt.

"Known as "acoustic shock" these types of incidents produce concussion-like symptoms and can lead to permanent hearing loss, among other long-lasting effects, depending on their severity. Last fall an incident while interpreting was so severe it sent a freelance interpreter to the hospital by ambulance."
